Characterizing the effect of N-CoMP and CoMP with interference in LTE-A

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

LTE - A is a standard account for adaptive connectivity between supporting base stations (eNB) and corresponding radio head (RH). In this paper we elaborate on characterizing the effect of N-CoMP (Non-Coordinated Multi Point) and CoMP(Coordinated Multi Point) with interference. We analyses both technique in LTE-A network with two transmission point connectivity of UE. A significant performance improvement evaluated in terms of throughput and KPIs in CoMP with DPS.

Performance Analysis of Optimized Proportional Fair Media Access Control Scheduler in Evolved UMTS Radio Access (EUTRA) Network

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

The EUTRA network offers significant data throughput rate. In this paper, we study and investigate the performance of Proportional Fair (PF) algorithm for media access control scheduler in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network and proposed an Optimized Proportional Fair (OPF) Algorithm. Furthermore, we implemented both algorithms and measured Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) as UE throughput (peak, average, and edge), average spectral efficiency and Fairness Index. On comparing the performance of proposed OPF algorithm with existing PF algorithm , we observed that on decreasing resource distribution by 14–15% in PF algorithm, proposed OPF algorithm show improvement of 4.7% in spectral efficiency, 54% in UE Peak level throughput, 15% in UE Average throughput, 15% in cell average throughput and degradation of 7% margin in UE Edge throughput. In this paper, we conclude that proposed OPF algorithms improve the performance of LTE EUTRA network. As the further scope of work, we suggest improving the performance of the UE at edge level throughput.

Strategy for Resource Allocation in LTE-A

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

An EUTRAN offers Multi-Point connectivity from base station (eNB) toward the UE for reliable connection under mobility. This enhances the user experience with committed throughput. Radio resource allocation is a complex arrangement of resources in multiuser scenario, and it became more cumbersome if UE offer optional or alternative path to connect the network. Generally in network radio resources are configured in the pool, however resources are offered to the user on the basis of “as and when require”. Multi-Point connectivity (Mu-PC) provides alternative radio resource, with different scheduling mechanism. This definitely reduces network capacity in whole, but at the same time increases resource availability per user at a given state of time. In each cycle of resource allocation a feedback mechanism work to cater operational resource requirement. In this paper, we have investigated the performance of EUTRAN under different strategies of resource allocation using MATLAB, from different schedulers such as round robin, proportional fair, best channel quality indicator (CQI), max transmission point (TP) and a resource fair. We evaluate strategies for resource allocation under indistinguishable arrangement and conclude that performance comprehensively depend upon channel imperfection.

Performance Evaluation of EUTRAN LTE Handover for High-Speed Vehicle

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

The seamless connectivity of the user equipment (UE) with an LTE base station is an important challenge which impacts the network performance. The network resource for handover procedure is controlled through different handover algorithms. These algorithms work on two aspects, that is power margin and quality of the reference signals. In this paper, we study and evaluate the performance of both algorithms on a typical experimental setup (using network simulator-3) with a different UE mobility scenario. The performance evaluation was performed under a set of key performance indicator i.e. throughput and hand over counts. In simulation results, we found that margin based algorithm offers better performance while comparing with the quality-based algorithm in terms of system throughput.

Typical Effect of CoMP Under Imperfect CSI in LTE-A

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

EUTRAN LTE–A have the capability for adaptive connectivity between base stations (eNodeB or eNB) and its consistent remote radio head (RRH)/relay node (RN). In this paper, we have described the effect of downlink multipoint connectivity with interference. We analyze the performance of Transmission Point under imperfect CSI with Coordinate Multi Point (CoMP) connectivity. In the simulation results, we found Multi Point connectivity enhances throughput with more reliable connectivity of UE with core nodes. Apart from these we measure performance of direct path (UE-eNB) and alternate path (UE-RRH/RN-eNB), and found an improved radio signal in a relationship of throughput, Bit Error Rate (BER), and Block Error Rate (BLER). Also observe throughput performance of the direct path is higher than alternate path due to transmission inherent effect.

Comparative performance analysis of different resource scheduler and characterising the impact of proportional fair under different TTI feedback delay in EUTRA network

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

Evolved UMTS terrestrial radio access network (EUTRAN) offers high uplink and downlink throughput. In this paper, we investigate the performance of five different schedulers of media access control for resource allocation, such as round robin (RB), proportional fair (PF), best channel quality indicator (CQI), max transmission point (TP) and resource fair (RF). On comparing the performance of resource allocation schedulers in the indistinguishable arrangement, we found the proportional fair (PF) offers balance in terms of individual metrics. Furthermore, we analyse the effect of feedback transmission time interval (TTI) delay on two typical EUTRAN networks referred to as long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advance (LTE-A). We evaluate the performance of the PF scheduler for both networks under varying feedback delay in TTI. Simulated results show that the delay in TTI affects the performance of resource allocation. Feedback delay improves network performance by compensating effect of imperfect channel.

Analysis of cell reselection in evolved UMTS radio access network: Radio Resource Allocation

Ankit Saxena; Ravi Sindal

Radio Resource Allocation (RRA) is a key challenge in every wireless communication generation. Due to scarcity of wireless spectrum, resources are shared based on requirement. We can find there is a tradeoff between availability and utilization of resources. However resource requirement also changes varying with user request, certain network failure incident, or time varying consumption patterns. In Long Term Evolution (LTE) reselection process is defined to facilitate user requirement. In our work we have analyzed all aspects of cell selection process and highlighted challenges and solutions to optimize resource management.
