For several years, the author, who is a professor of maternal and child nursing, has volunteered time to teach classes and lead group discussions for expectant girls in a home for unwed mothers. Hers is a compassionate analysis of their conflicts with family and society and what they need from nurses.

MCN 347 NuChild-Bearing/Child Rearing 4 cr Analysis of theories, concepts, evidence, and issues and trends in professional nursing care of the childbearing and childrearing family. Emphasis on the use of the nursing process and other systematic approaches to plan, implement, and evaluate health promotion and maintenance activities, illness care, and rehabilitation with individuals and families in various stages of childbearing and childrearing, as well as the gynecological care of women in a variety of acute and community settings. Co-requisite: MCN 348 Pre-requisite: CMN 350 Minimum Grade of C and CMN 351 Minimum Grade of C and (NU 211 Minimum Grade of C or NU 300 Minimum Grade of C) and (NU 221 Minimum Grade of C or NU 301 Minimum Grade of C). CMN 350 and CMN 351 can be taken concurrently with this course.

MCH in American Samoa

&NA; Four teams of nurse educators from the University of Hawaii were invited to conduct workshops on maternal and child health for public health nurses of Samoa. Three of the Hawaiian nurses and one Samoan nurse share their experience.
