The radiation characteristics of a wraparound microstrip antenna on a conducting sphere are investigated for different radii, frequencies, permittivities, and thickness of dielectric substrate. The near fields are determined from the magnetic ring currents at the edges of the strip by the use of spherical wave functions. Radiation patterns are obtained from a near-field-to-far-field transformation by the method of spherical wave expansion. >

In this paper, we analyze the industry needs to address EMC/EMI Issues, presenting a tentative EMC course suitable for an Engineering Technology program. Our goal is to contribute to prepare students to become successful professionals in the years to come. A common goal of engineering technology programs is to produce highly qualified graduates serving industry and the society. They need to provide students with not only practical hands-on experience, but also with the critical thinking and technical skills to solve the problems and challenges that graduates will face in their professional careers. Engineering Technology programs need then to anticipate the future needs of industry in order to be abreast of the ever changing the global market in technological fields. An overall perspective in the field of Electrical, Biomedical and Telecommunication Engineering programs show that Electromagnetic Compliance and Interference (EMC/EMI) will be a key issue for the Indian industry in the very near future, if not today. We can expect in the future regulatory agencies that will issue new Standards in a manner similar to the European experience, which will result in a demand of graduates with background in EMC/EMI. The aim of this paper is to explore the current and future needs in the area of Electromagnetic Compliance and interference (EMI/EMC), as well as to present a course outline that would comply with these goals.

This paper presents a study on the resonant frequencies of an elliptical microstrip antenna and a new simple approach to determine the resonant frequencies of any elliptical microstrip patch antenna with greater accuracy. The results obtained with this new approach are in good agreement with the available experimental results.

The paper describes radiation characteristics of wraparound microstrip antennas on dielectric coated conducting cylinder. The effects of the finite length and radius of conducting cylinder, permittivity and thickness of the dielectric substrate and frequency on the radiation pattern are investigated. Initially the radiated near-fields are determined from the equivalent magnetic ring current sources, which arise due to fringing Fields at the edges of the patch. These fields are determined from the cavity model. The presence of the dielectric layer, strip conductor and the metallic body are taken into account in the radiation pattern analysis by the use of three dimensional cylindrical wave transform of the radiated nearfields.

The characteristic impedance of asymmetric and symmetric transverse electromagnetic (TEM) cells are computed using Method of Moment (MOM). Quasi-static approximations are used for the operation of the cell at frequencies well below its cut off frequency. Accurate distribution of electric charge on the centre conductor and subsequently the characteristic impedance are obtained. The results are compared with those of others obtained by different methods. The method has the advantage that no assumptions are needed for the charge distribution on the septum.
