This succinct definition is important in that it recognizes not only the significance of human influence in the measurement of what we do and what we are, but also addresses the complexity of the very nature of leadership itself Leadership is not an event in isolation, but a process containing many and varied parts. The literature on leadership has historically focused on the influence of one or more people over others. It is from this discussion that the terminology of &dquo;leader&dquo; and &dquo;follower&dquo; evolve. The first step toward self-leadership, write the authors, is the recognition that leadership is not just an outward process, but one that we can do ourselves.
