Intelligent systems for monitoring telecommunication equipment parameters are especially useful in the case of locations that are not under human surveillance. The monitoring system described in our paper is a general one, but it can be adapted and implemented to monitor the specific parameters of equipment utilized in various fields, such as: medicine, agriculture, energetics, chemical industry, etc. In this paper we present the development of both architecture of the device and the specific software applications for such system. Monitoring systems of analogue and digital signals with Ethernet transmission consist of Devices Analyzing Input Signals (DAIS) and sensors. The main parts of the DAIS system are: printed circuit board, equipped with an industrial microcontroller, an Ethernet transceiver, resistors, capacitors and connectors. The software running on the microcontroller is developed in ANSI C (American National Standards Institute). It includes the C and C ++ GCC compiler (GNU Compiler Collection), an assembler and a simulator that facilitates application development and testing. The alarm monitoring and control application can be run from any electronic computing device equipped with an operating system using TCP/IP and has a browser that supports Java-Script. The web application is designed for reading the values displayed by the DAIS system, interprets and show them in a format accessible to browsers. In case of detecting any errors, the application puts the device in the “Alarm List” and sends a warning sound to the dispatch staff, directly from the browser. The detailed records on DAIS system reported values are nonstop monitored and stored in a database, with the possibility of graphic display of all values up to a maximum of one year. Thus, parameters can be monitored, including main feed voltage, backup voltage, the external temperature of the equipment cabinet, internal temperature, relative humidity inside the cabinet, smoke sensor(s), the state of access door(s) to the cabinet, etc. Likewise, we sought to increase productivity and obtain an energy-efficient device that does not require maintenance, proposing a software solution for the management of processes being executed on the microcontroller, so that it is as customizable as possible using a web interface. The DAIS system is also an economical one, significantly less expensive than other systems existing on the market.

Over the last 20 years the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE) has proven itself to be a strong organization aiming to support Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) education across Europe. EAEEIE members participated in several EU projects (i.e. ELLEIEC, THEIERE) with recognized contribution to EIE education process. Its new Strategic Alignment of Electrical and Information Engineering in European Higher Education Institutions (SALEIE) EU supported project aims to provide higher education models in the EIE disciplines that can respond to the key global technical challenges. This paper deals with the last results within the SALEIE project work package WP3 (Global Challenges). After defining the global challenges that the EIE graduates may face, a survey has been conducted to identify existing models in EIE higher education and their degree of response to key global technical challenges.

This article theorizes the functional relationship between the human components (i.e., scholars) and non-human components (i.e., structural configurations) of academic domains. It is organized around the following question: in what ways have scholars formed and been formed by the structural configurations of their academic domain? The article uses as a case study the academic domain of education and technology to examine this question. Its authorship approach is innovative, with a worldwide collection of academics (99 authors) collaborating to address the proposed question based on their reflections on daily social and academic practices. This collaboration followed a three-round process of contributions via email. Analysis of these scholars’ reflective accounts was carried out, and a theoretical proposition was established from this analysis. The proposition is of a mutual (yet not necessarily balanced) power (and therefore political) relationship between the human and non-human constituents of an academic realm, with the two shaping one another. One implication of this proposition is that these non-human elements exist as political ‘actors’, just like their human counterparts, having ‘agency’ – which they exercise over humans. This turns academic domains into political (functional or dysfunctional) ‘battlefields’ wherein both humans and non-humans engage in political activities and actions that form the identity of the academic domain.

The European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE) has been for 20 years and still is dedicated to supporting Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) across Europe. Its new Strategic Alignment of Electrical and Information Engineering in European Higher Education Institutions (SALEIE), an EU supported project, gathers together a global team aiming to provide higher education models in the EIE disciplines that can respond to the key global technical challenges. This paper deals with findings within the SALEIE projects work package WP3 (Global Challenges), namely: state-of-the-art in implementation of the Bologna recommendation for Bachelor and Master, technical challenges that the EIE higher education faces nowadays, and existing models in EIE higher education and their degree of response to key global technical challenges.

The paper studies the implementation of a web software application in node.js language, with a view to analyzing neural networks and artificial intelligence in a virtual environment, with application in social networks. The software allows experimenting on the capacity of virtual entities to learn to act as a group or individually, avoid the margins of the environment where they are located, or obstacles, and learn to feed in order to live. The application is a novelty in the sense that, until recently, i.e. the emergence of node.js, implementing the concept of neural networks in a scripting language was not possible. This concept can be developed in practical applications such as social networks, search engines with artificial intelligence, personal assistants, e.g. Siri etc. The final aim is to obtain an efficient software solution, with application in social networks, which can evolve over time.

The abstract character of mathematical concepts can often discourage students who need to assimilate new materials. In order to help them overcome this problem, we developed a set of interactive teaching tool packages (ITTPs) consisting of theoretical modules and applications. A pseudo-holographic display was used for visualizing 3D objects and the outcome of modifications of the parameters inside mathematical formulas. One of the starting ideas was to develop the software using open-source libraries capable of manipulating 3D models like Java 3D. We extended the concept to work inside a web browser as well, in order to make the applications available on mobile devices and eliminate the need to install any other software.

In cogenerator operation, the most important parameter considered by manufacturers is the number of operating hours, based on which the coupling connecting the motor to the generator is chosen. In this paper the authors conducted a study on the influence of factors leading to the occurrence of major flaws in cogenerator operation. Experimental tests were performed on three identical cogenerators placed in the same location, operating under similar conditions. The results of the experimental analysis have demonstrated that the most important parameter which must be taken into account in operation is the number of starts/stops (transient states) of the cogenerator. These actions involve mechanical shocks which can be characterized (interpreted) mathematically. The modelling of vibration phenomena is achieved through parabolic equations and the solution of these equations, obtained by different analytical mathematical methods, validating the results. Identifying and analyzing the main flaws found in cogenerator operation entitle us to recommend using elastic couplings with better characteristics than those utilized currently.

Terminal communication systems are often confronted with undesired e-mails, which reach their destination, while cloaking the real sender. Thus, in order to develop appropriate security software, it is necessary to know how to write identity-concealing software. This paper seeks to describe how the identity of undesired e-mail senders can be hidden. The final aim of the work is to detect adequate means of defense against unwanted e-mails, by generating, in the future, strong security (or filtering) algorithms and methodologies, adapted to diverse situations.

The new approaches to higher education in terms of teaching methods are increasingly targeted towards virtual environments. The first benefit would be the access to educational resources, independent of location and time. With the wide spread of mobile technologies, from mobile phones and tablets that support content distribution, social media communication and collaboration, to teaching methods and technologies, teaching and learning must be adapted to these new challenges in online higher education. Therefore, courses must be redesigned and structured in order to be accessible to individual study. The paper is focused on developing a template for online courses, starting from designing the main learning objects as resources and activities, including teaching materials, online assessments, questionnaires and communication-interaction tools such as webinars, forums and chat. As a good practice example, we present the results from the application of a course evaluation questionnaire, in terms of structure, content, interaction between participants. Based on these results a comparative analysis is made between online and blended learning, regarding the fact that there are a lot of constraints that affect the way blended courses are developed, which can compromise their quality. In conclusion, we present the main benefits of using this method of learning. As future work, we make some remarks about improvements regarding the system and methods.
