Optimal Control of the Tractor-Semitrailer Truck

SUMMARY This paper is concerned with the braking performance and the handling behavior of the tractor-semitrailer truck under optimal braking. Optimal control theory is used in order to deal with the problem and a combination of the steepest descent method and the Davidon Fletcher Powell method is used to solve it numerically. Results for some chosen braking maneuvers are obtained for a nonlinear truck model which has 14 degrees of freedom. These results show that, for the chosen maneuvers an idealized anti-skid braking is close to being optimal in the sense defined in this paper. Implementation of an idealized anti-skid braking on the tractor-semitrailer truck, however, may be not desirable.

Method and apparatus for detecting engine knock in an internal combustion engine

The output signal of a mechanical engine knock sensor is supplied to two similar treatment branches through different input filters, one, for the main signal, which passes frequencies at which engine knock signals are known to occur and for a reference signal by a filter which passes only frequencies likely to contain few or no components of knock signals. If both signals show a sharp of rise occurring at the same time or with less than a predetermined time offset, the peak value of each signal is stored and utilized to weight inversely the amplification of the signal value during the declining phase following the peak. It has been discovered that engine knock signals fall off more slowly from a peak than other motor noises. Consequently, when the weighted signals are compared and show a consistent difference exceeding a predetermined threshold, an engine knock detection signal is produced.

Im taglichen Verkehr verhalt sich das Fahrzeug auf griffiger Fahrbahn meistens linear: die Querbeschleunigung ist selten groser als 0,2 g und die Langsbeschleunigung und die Langsverzogerung sind selten groser als 0,3 g. Damit sind die Betrage der Schrag- und Schwimmwinkel selten groser als 2† und der Schlupfbetrag ist selten groser als 2%. In diesen Bereichen verhalt sich der Reifen linear. Gerat das Fahrzeug in den nichtlinearen Bereich, so wird die Fahrzeugfuhrung sehr schwer, einerseits weil der Fahrer nicht gewohnt ist, das Fahrzeug in dieser schwer zu kontrollierenden Situation zu fuhren und andererseits, weil er umso langer braucht die Fahrsituation zu erkennen, je weniger Erfahrung er mit solchen Situationen gesammelt hat. Erreicht z.B. die Hinterachse den maximalen Seitenkraftbeiwert vor der Vorderachse, so kann das Fahrzeug ins Schleudern geraten (Bild 8-1). Solche Situationen werden haufig durch ubermasiges Lenken hervorgerufen. Um den Fahrer in solchen Situationen zu unterstutzen, wurden aktive Fahrsicherheitssysteme wie das Elektronische Stabilitatsprogramm, ESP, entwickelt und seit 1995 in den Fahrzeugen verbaut [1], [2].
