In this study, the application of a systematic plant layout planning (SLP) to assist the optimum design of process areas and locations is proposed. The number of machines and space requirement in pulley factory is determined. The operation process chart, flow of material and activity relationship chart have been investigated. The relationships between machines, operation sections and material flow are used to determine the suitable position of each activity. The SLP method has been employed to design the two alternative plant layouts and compare the performances between new layout and present layout in term of material flow. The new plant layout is modified by moving a disassembly and surface finish that significantly decrease the distance of material flow, so it is effective increasing production.

This research was aimed to improve an inspector’s performance on the training through 3D model by motivation technique. The subjects were divided into 3 groups; the control, the feedback training, and feedback training with reward groups. The subjects participated in the last group would get rewards or punishments such as money given or deducted during the test with 3D model software with Thai characters and Roman characters representing defects and backgrounds. According to the experiment, the performance in terms of speed and accuracy in detecting defects in training with reward group increased. In other words, feedback with motivation training could make visual inspectors spend less time detecting defects to their minimum because motivation attracted them in the experiment. Therefore, the time spent seeking defects in this group decreased. The performance of training with reward group is higher than other groups which showed the statistical significance at the .01 level.

The purpose of this project was determined the study of extraction β-carotene from crude palm oil with soxhlet extraction to analysis economic value. Evaluation of β-carotene extraction process was absorbed on resin adsorbents of styene divinyl benzene copolymer, by an addition of isopropanal solvent and hexane in soxhlet extraction process. The result shows that optimum condition for β-carotene adsorption time was 2 hours, soxhlet extraction time was 3 hours for 1 g resin, at 85 °C could extract 21.911% β-carotene by weight of carotene in crude palm oil. The resin could be reused for β-carotene at least 3 times. The extraction could extract 80% β-carotene by weight of carotene in crude palm oil. The process required a total investment of first year 2,059,627 bath, Net Present Value was 334,935.67 bath, benefit per cost was 2.04, the internal rate of return was 35.1% and the pay back period was 4 years. The result that was quite attractive for the cooperatives to invest and a design planning of machine in extraction process was a product layout.

This research into the development of high compressive strength brick reports the experiment of the high compressive strength brick made out of alumina and rice husk ash with the following ratios: 40:60, 50:40, 60:40, 70:30 and 80:20, with 10% or 15% of sodium silicate according to weight. The burning temperature was set at 1,000 °C and 1,200 °C. It was found that in term of density, the brick with the ratio of 80:20 with 15% of sodium silicate yielded the highest density with 3.3 g/ cm3. As for the compressive strength, the brick with the ratio of 80:20 with 10% of sodium silicate burned at 1,200 °C yielded the compressive strength of 528 kg/cm2. The brick with the ratio of 80:20 with 10% of sodium silicate had the lowest absorption of 15.68%. As for the shrinkage, the brick with the ratio of 40:60 with 10% of sodium silicate had the highest shrinkage of 1.98%.

This research is aimed to study the influence of the background color which affects efficiency in visual inspection. The visual search simulation program was set to test the search for the letters X and Y assigned to represent defects and mixed up with other background letters in 4 different colors: white, yellow, red and blue. The test were conducted with 48 samples who passed the selection standard by having normal eyesight, more than 50% accuracy in defect search while the average search time was less than 50%. The samples were separated into 4 groups for defect search with 4 colors background. The result was shown that the different background colors affect the average search time for defect search in each screen and the accuracy of the search for different defects. The white background provided the inspector the highest defect search efficiency with the level of statistical significance at .05.
