Abstract Water-distilled volatiles from the leaves of Eryngium foetidum L. of Cuban origin were analyzed by a combination of GC and GC/MS. Forty-six components were identified, of which the major ones were found to be 2,4,5-trimethylbenzaldehyde (20.53%), hexadecanoic acid (12.05%) and carotol (9.94%).

Abstract The seed of Eryngium foetidum L. of Cuban origin has been analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-seven compounds were identified, of which carotol (19–31%), (E)-β-farnesene (9.98%), (E)-anethole (7.43%) and α-pinene (7.69%) were the major constituents.

Abstract Volatile constituents obtained from four cultivars of guava (Psidium guajava L.) fruits by simultaneous steam distillation-solvent extraction, and analyzed by GC/MS. More than 40 compounds were identified in each cultivar, 17 of which have been identified for the first time as volatile constituents of guava. Each cultivar has a typical composition, characterized by a specific ratio between die main components and classes of substances. The major volatiles were either β-caryophyllene, limonene, 3-phenylpropyl acetate, (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate or (E)-cinnamyl acetate.

ABSTRACT The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from the dried seeds of Coriandrum sativum L. growing in Cuba was investigated by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-five compounds (96.9%) were identified, of which linalool alone accounted for 54.57% of the oil.

Abstract The essential oil of Artemisia absinthium L. of Cuban origin has been analyzed by GC and GC/MS. More than 40 compounds were identified, of which bornyl acetate (23.02%) was the major constituent.

ABSTRACT The essential oil of Lippia alba (Mil.) N. E. Brown of Cuban origin has been analyzed by a combination of column chromatography, GC and GC/MS. Forty-two compounds were identified, of which limonene (6.50%), carvone (28.95%), piperitenone (6.35%) and β-guaiene (11.53%) were the major constituents.

ABSTRACT The composition of the essential oil from the leaves and flowers of Ocimum gratissimum L. was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Although the composition of both oils was similar, the quantity of individual components differed between them. Thymol and p-cymene were the major compounds in both oils.

Abstract The essential oil of dried herb of Artemisia vulgaris L., grown in Cuba, was subjected to GC/MS investigation. Eighteen constituents were identified. The oil consisted mainly of caryophyllene oxide (31.1%).

Abstract The volatile oil of the air-dried aerial parts of Ocimum tenuiflorum L. was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Forty compounds representing 90% of the oil were identified. Eugenol (34.3%), β-elemene (18.0%) and β-caryophyllene (23.1%) were the major constituents.

ABSTRACT The essential oil of Mentha pulegium L. of Cuban origin has been analyzed by a combination of GC and GC/MS. Thirty-three compounds were identified, of which neoisomenthol (20.68%) and pulegone (25.14%) were the major constituents.
