This paper describes a generic model for personality, mood and emotion simulation for conversational virtual humans. We present a generic model for updating the parameters related to emotional behaviour, as well as a linear implementation of the generic update mechanisms. We explore how existing theories for appraisal can be integrated into the framework. Then we describe a prototype system that uses the described models in combination with a dialogue system and a talking head with synchronized speech and facial expressions. Copyright

This paper describes a generic model for personality, mood and emotion simulation for conversational virtual humans. We present a generic model for describing and updating the parameters related to emotional behaviour. Also, this paper explores how existing theories for appraisal can be integrated into the framework. Finally we describe a prototype system that uses the described models in combination with a dialogue system and a talking head with synchronised speech and facial expressions.

In this paper we present a discussion about believability for Virtual Environments, emotional simulation and also Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs). We will discuss about the definition of believability and the three elements of believability environments (immersion, presentation and interaction). We also present a discussion about believability and interfaces. Finally, ECA, emotional and personnality simulation are explained and presented.

This paper describes a prototype system to visualize and animate 3D scenes from car accident reports, written in French. The problem of generating such a 3D simulation can be divided into two subtasks: the linguistic analysis and the virtual scene generation. As a means of communication between these two modules, we first designed a template formalism to represent a written accident report. The CARSIM system first processes written reports, gathers relevant information, and converts it into a formal description. Then, it creates the corresponding 3D scene and animates the vehicles.

This paper describes a system to create animated 3D scenes of car accidents from written reports. The text-to-scene conversion process consists of two stages. An information extraction module creates a tabular description of the accident and a visual simulator generates and animates the scene. n nWe outline the overall structure of the text-to-scene conversion and the template structure. We then describe the information extraction system: the detection of the static objects and the vehicles, their initial directions, the chain of events, and the collisions. We show snapshots of the car animation output and we conclude with the results we obtained.
