Four-wave-mixing crosstalk in a fiber-optical parametric amplifier has been reduced by 16 dB by decreasing the fiber length from 340 to 50 m, and increasing the pump power to maintain the gain at 20 dB. In this letter, numerical simulations using the split-step Fourier method are presented, showing consistency with experimental observations.

By using the four-sideband theory, we analyze the gain spectrum in wideband two-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers and predict gain ripples over the flat gain region. We derive an approximation of their pseudo-periods and discuss methods for reducing their amplitudes.

We report operation of a continuous-wave one-pump fiber OPA with net gain between 1460 nm and 1690 nm. We used a 50 m long step-index highly-nonlinear fiber, and 5 W of pump power.

We obtained 6 dB gain with a one-pump fiber OPA using a 3-m long Bi-HNLF fiber. Pump power was 30.2 dBm. SBS suppression required 300 MHz PRBS phase modulation.

We report the fabrication of an integrated LiNbO3 Y-junction synchronized double phase modulator fully packaged for RF-application up to 40 GHz. This optical modulator allows for delivering simultaneously counter-phase high-speed modulation and coupling for two input channels. It was designed for application to fiber-optical parametric amplifier and wavelength converters for suppressing idler spectral broadening and signal gain distortion caused by phase modulation itself. With this component, Idler spectral broadening suppression is experimentally demonstrated over all the parametric gain band of a two-pump parametric amplifier operating in the 1.55-mum region. In addition, we present a useful technique for straightforward and full coupling of the pumps and the signal.

We have obtained record gain of 60 dB with a continuous-wave two-pump fiber optical parametric amplifier, over a 5.5-nm bandwidth. We used a 500-m long fiber, and 1.5 W of pump power.

Using the four sidebands theory, we analyze a recent experimental demonstration of a broadband and flat two-pump fiber optical parametric amplifier and predict gain oscillations near the pump wavelength due to interference with modulation instability and Bragg scattering.

We used the sub-nanometer bandwidth of a bismuth-oxide fiber OPA for demultiplexing 10 Gb/s channels 100 GHz apart with penalty <2 dB. We obtained -20 dB of crosstalk, with 2.5 W of CW pump power.
