This 25th annual volume reviewing the current literature in neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry covers articles which appeared in 1969, although there are some papers published in 1968. Editor E. A. Spiegel of Temple University School of Medicine, a distinguished neurological investigator, is capably assisted by an editorial board and a large number of contributors responsible for individual sections. The format is identical to previous editions in which there are divisions concerned with the basic neurological sciences, clinical neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry. However, no attempt is made to cover the entire literature in each of these major disciplines. Thus, the neurosurgical section deals only with peripheral nerves, spinal cord, central nervous system trauma, and brain tumors, all of which have been reviewed in previous editions. Other topics, such as vascular disturbances, motor disorders, and pain, which appeared in preceding volumes, are deleted, but presumably they will receive future attention as

Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry is the 24th volume in a series of annual reviews of this field, edited by E. A. Spiegel of Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. This book is the result of what must be an almost continuous and herculean effort throughout the year to sift, evaluate, and identify a huge number of scientific articles. The editors problem is, of necessity, compounded by a tremendous proliferation of medical publications, a growth which is shared by neurology and psychiatry. The difficulty is obviously increased by the appearance of neurologic articles in a wide variety of journals, many of which are primarily devoted to other fields. The editor discusses certain aspects of this total situation by emphasizing the impossibility of covering everything in one edition. Accordingly, he postponed consideration of subjects such as neuroendocrinology, electroencephalography, cerebral trauma, and rehabilitation until the 1970 edition. Nonetheless, this 505 page

The 1967-1968 Year Book of Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery follows the familiar format of the Year Book series. The editor of the neurology section, Roland P. MacKay of Northwestern University, died during the year and his editorial comments were not completed. However, this task was completed by Russell N. DeJong of the University of Michigan School of Medicine. The abstracts are generally informative and well written. Illustrations are reproduced adequately although perhaps somewhat sparsely. As with all yearbooks, criticism can be directed at the selection of papers although this is a matter of individual choice by the editors. The final product inevitably is a rather limited view of the current literature, and there can be a loss of perspective of the overall direction in a certain field. A major benefit of the year book format could be the personal touch which the section editor, through extensive use of editorial comments,
