LINEARIZER CIRCUIT DESIGN OPTIMIZATION WITH MOBILE-SATELLITE APPLICATIONS

In this paper we present an extremely compact linearizer circuit realized with a pair of anti-parallel diodes. At this level of compactness it is essential to precompute the linearization function required to optimize the overall linearized amplifier performance. We will present an algorithm that in general may be used to match two sets of curves. This algorithm, realized in a set of C-language routines is used to simultaneousl y optimize both AMAM and AMPM transfer characteristics of SSPAs used in a multi-beam mobile-satellite payload. This linearization function is critical in this application both because of the large number of amplifiers used, and the stringent requirement on amplitude and phase distortions (linearities) of the amplifiers. A comparison between computed and measured responses is given.
