Corrosion of ASTM A 706 structural steel embedded in concrete obtained from by-products as steel slag and fly ash alkali activated was evaluated. Characterization techniques such as open circuit potential, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in a solution of sodium chloride 3.5% were employed. The steel-concrete interface was characterized by transmission Mossbauer spectroscopy at room temperature and X-ray diffraction. The results obtained by the different characterization techniques were compared with values obtained for Portland cement concrete. The corrosion products identified are magnetite (Fe3O4), wuestite (FeO) and goethite (α-FeOOH).

In this work the technique of impedance spectroscopy electrochemistry (EIS) was used to evaluate the effects of carbon dioxide on the corrosion of ASTM A 706 structural steel embedded in concrete with alkali activated slag (AAS), AAS concrete is a mixture of ground granulated slag, fine and coarse aggregates and alkaline solution (sodium silicate) in the amount required for the concrete mix. The study was conducted in comparison with specimens exposed to natural conditions with a low concentration of CO2 (0.03% CO2). The carbonation of the concrete was obtained through accelerated carbonation under controlled conditions (3% CO2, 65% of relative humidity and 20oC of temperature). The data of Impedance in the middle frequency region 1mHz - 100KHz. A high frequency response was found using the interface-specific exposure and low frequency response corresponding to the specific interface – steel. EIS was used to established the ability to achieve passivation of steel embedded in AAS concrete in natural and accelerated environmental conditions.

espanolRecubrimientos monocapa de nitruro de hafnio fueron depositados en buriles de acero rapido, mediante tecnica de deposicion fisica en fase vapor mediante pulverizacion con magnetron (magnetron sputtering). Se uso buriles sin recubrir como sistemas de referencias, en el mecanizado por arranque de viruta del acero AISI1020, midiendo las temperaturas generadas. Se caracterizo la resistencia al desgaste de las herramientas evaluandolas mediante microscopia electronica de barrido, y las superficies obtenidas en el acero mecanizado mediante un rugosimetro. Se evidencio que el uso de recubrimientos monocapa de nitruro de hafnio en buriles de acero rapido disminuye el desgaste adhesivo de la herramienta y la transferencia de energia generada durante el proceso de corte. Ademas, el recubrimiento ofrece ventajas en su aplicacion en el corte por arranque de viruta de metales ferrosos, al aumentar la vida util de la herramienta, mejorar la calidad del producto, y disminuir los tiempos y costos del proceso. EnglishHafnium nitride monolayer coatings were deposited as thin films on high-speed steel by magnetron sputtering physical vapor deposition. Uncoated high-speed steels ASSAB 17 were used as reference systems, for machining on AISI1020 steel by chip removal, measuring the temperature during the process. Wear resistance of the tools was characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, and through of the surfaces of the steel using a roughness tester. It was evidenced that the use of monolayer hafnium coatings on uncoated high-speed steel reduces the adhesive wear of the tool and the energy transfer during the cutting process. Also, hafnium nitride coating offers advantages in its application to chip removal process of ferrous metals, by increasing the life of the tool, improving the quality of the work piece, and reducing cutting process time and cost.

A comparative study of the lubricant properties and oxidative stability of sesame oil and a mineral oil, without additives is presented. The superior power of vegetable oil lubricant compared to that of mineral oil was verified by preventive wear tests and extreme pressure in a four-ball tribometer. According to atomic absorption test, there are traces of metals in the areas that are in contact with the sesame oil during the development of the preventative wear test. These particles catalyze the oxidation of the oil during the differential scanning calorimetry test, decreasing the oxidation starting temperature. The preventive wear test partially degraded the sesame oil and increased the peroxide value. This change in the oil was not possible to find by Fourier transform with infrared spectroscopy and acidity. The stability of the mineral oil is superior to that of the vegetable oil.

espanolSe realizo un estudio experimental para medir la fuerza adhesiva de dos laminas de composicion similar unidas con adhesivo. Las laminas se fabricaron a partir de polietileno con 32% de harina Telinne monspessulana y 5,2% de polietileno maleatado. Se usaron dos tipos de adhesivos ecologicos: poliuretano en dispersion acuosa y goma caliente de etilen vinil acetato (hot melt). Los substratos o superficies a unir de cada lamina previamente fueron sometidos a abrasion mecanica. Posteriormente las superficies fueron tratadas por separado con silano vinil-tri(2-metoxi etoxi), primer acrilico y diisocianato. La resistencia a la separacion de ambos substratos denominada fuerza adhesiva de la junta, fue determinada aplicando la prueba 180° T-peel adhesion. Los tratamientos quimicos aumentaron la resistencia adhesiva de las juntas unidas con poliuretano, los valores mas altos se obtuvieron al unir los substratos con adhesivo hot melt sin tratamiento quimico. La adicion de agente maleatado en el compuesto de madera plastica no mejoro la eficiencia de los tratamientos quimicos. EnglishAn experimental study was performed to measure the resistance to adhesive peel strength of two sheets of similar composition bonded with adhesive. The sheets were made from polyethylene with 32% Telinne monspessulana flour and 5.2% maleated polyethylene. Two types of eco-friendly adhesives were used: aqueous dispersion polyurethane and hot melt ethylene vinyl acetate base. The substrates or surfaces to be bonded from each sheet previously were subjected to mechanical abrasion. Subsequently the surface was treated with vinyl tri (2 -methoxyethoxy) silane, acrylic and diisocyanate primers. The resistance to the separation of both substrates also named as adhesive force of the joint, was determined with the test 180° T-peel adhesion. Chemical treatments increased the peeling strength in the bonded joints with polyurethane water-based, however higher values were obtained by joining the substrates with hot melt adhesive without chemical treatment. The addition of maleate in the wood plastic composite did not improve the efficiency of chemical treatments.

espanolEl poder lubricante del aceite de ajonjoli extra virgen con aditivos de nanoparticulas de cobre fue evaluado mediante ensayos de desgaste preventivo y presion extrema. El desempeno como lubricante del aceite vegetal fue comparado con el de un lubricante hidraulico comercial. La lubricidad de los aceites fue evaluada a traves de la medicion del diametro promedio de la huella de desgaste, la carga anterior al desgaste visible y el punto de soldadura. Los resultados experimentales indican que las nanoparticulas de cobre en dispersion actuan como aditivos antidesgaste y como aditivos de extrema presion. Se encontro que una concentracion de 1% de nanoparticulas de cobre en dispersion en el aceite base, puede superar el desempeno como lubricante de un aceite hidraulico comercial. EnglishThe lubricant power of extra virgin sesame oil with the addition of copper nanoparticles was evaluated by tests of preventive wear and extreme pressure. The performance of the vegetable oil as a lubricant was compared with a commercial hydraulic oil. The lubricity of the oils was evaluated by measuring wear scare diameter, last nonseizure load and the weld point. Experimental results indicate that the copper nanoparticles in dispersion act as both anti-wear and extreme pressure additives. It was found that a concentration of 1% copper nanoparticles dispersed in the base oil has better lubricant performance than commercial hydraulic oil.

Resumen En este estudio se analizo el efecto del antioxidante butil hidroxitolueno sobre la degradacion oxidativa del aceite de ajonjoli (Sesamum indicum) . Se evaluaron diferentes concentraciones de antioxidante (0.05; 0.1; 0.2; y 0.5 % p/p). La estabilidad oxidativa fue determinada mediante analisis de calorimetria diferencial de barrido, El aceite con 0.1% de antioxidante presento mayor resistencia a la oxidacion. Varias muestras de aceite fueron preparadas con esta concentracion para evaluar el efecto del antioxidante en otras propiedades. Un muestra con la misma cantidad de butil hidroxitolueno mostro menor degradacion del aceite de ajonjoli sometido a la prueba tribologica de desgaste preventivo sin modificacion del poder lubricante. La adicion de butil hidroxitolueno en la mencionada cantidad no modifico el indice de viscosidad del aceite. Sin embargo se observo ligeros cambios en la temperatura de cristalizacion y fusion del aceite de ajonjoli. Palabras claves: aceite de ajonjoli, BHT, DSC, estabilidad oxidativa, tribologia

En este trabajo se desarrollo el diseno y construccion de un equipo de mezclado interno, dispersivo y distribuido. El equipo cuenta con mecanismos de mezclado que genera movimientos de tipo difusion molecular, movimiento turbulento y convectivo, generando mezclas de forma distributiva. El mezclador se compone de contenedores, separadores, elementos de transmision de potencia, sistemas de lubricacion, contencion de fluidos y de calentamiento. Ademas cuenta con un sistema de control y lectura de los parametros de temperatura, torque y velocidad obtenidos mediante la tarjeta NI PCI 6221 de National Instruments, usando el software de instrumentacion virtual Lab-VIEW®.
