Abstract Vaporization enthalpies for a pairs of the ionic liquids (ILs) 1,2,3-trimethyl-imidazolium and 1,2,3-trimethyl-benzimidazolium bistrifluorsulfonylimide and the corresponding molecular liquids 1,2-dimethyl-imidazole and 1,2-dimethyl-benzimidazole were determined using a quartz crystal microbalance method and TGA (for ILs) and the transpiration method (for molecular compounds). Differences in vaporization enthalpies in molecular and ionic liquids are discussed in context of structure-property relations.

Studies of the phase and chemical equilibria in the systems with chemical reaction cover a wide range of problems related to both experimental determination of physicochemical characteristics of these systems and various aspects of thermodynamic analysis of the phase and chemical processes occurring there. The main goal of this review consists in systematization and analysis of available experimental data concerning the vapour–liquid and liquid–liquid equilibria in multicomponent systems where chemical reactions occur. The studies considered here have been mainly published in recent years, and they include rather detailed data on physicochemical properties, phase transitions and chemical processes in fluid systems, i.e., the data which are essential for thermodynamic analysis. Available approaches to the thermodynamic analysis of heterogeneous systems with chemical reactions are also discussed. Particular attention is paid to the studies of the simultaneous phase and chemical equilibria. We hope that this review could be useful both for fundamental studies of heterogeneous reactive systems and for solving applied problems on the design of combined reactive and mass-transfer processes. The bibliography includes 79 references.

The paper presents new experimental data on the chemical equilibrium in the system n-propanol + acetic acid + n-propyl acetate + water at 293.15 and 353.15 K, and the data on liquid–liquid equilibrium at 353.15 K. Based on the experimental and literature data, the possibilities that chemical equilibrium exists in a homogeneous or heterogeneous region of compositions has been analyzed. The temperature shift of chemical and phase equilibria and the values of the thermodynamic constants of chemical equilibrium are discussed.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are promising alternative for ionic liquids due to their low cost and sustainability. Considerable attention is paid on the ability of DES to replace ionic liquids in the separation of organic liquid mixtures via extraction. In this sense, it is important to determine the physicochemical parameters of liquid-liquid equilibrium for the industrially significant mixtures and deep eutectic solvents. In the present work a mixture of n-octane, toluene and DES based on choline chloride and malonic acid was studied at 293.15, 313.15 K and atmospheric pressure. Tie-lines were obtained and ability of deep eutectic solvents to separate aliphatic-aromatic mixture was analyzed. Experimental liquid-liquid equilibrium data were fit with the NRTL model, and interaction parameters of components were obtained and discussed.

Chitosan (CS) films containing deep eutectic solvent (DES) based on malonic acid (MA) and choline chloride (ChCl) were successfully prepared by solution casting method by using DES content ranging from 0 to 82 wt%. A strong interaction of CS with the components of DES was demonstrated by analyses of water sorption isotherms, atomic force microscopy and FTIR results. The plasticizing effect of the MA and ChCl mixture on the CS matrix was shown by static bulk mechanical measurements, thermal analysis and quantitative nanomechanical mapping (QNM). Elongation at break increased from 3 to 62% at increase of DES content from 0 to 67 wt%, while further increase of DES content led to the decreasing of maximal elongation. Introduction of DES into CS films led to the appearance of glass transition temperature in the region +2 - -2.3 °C. QNM results indicated homogeneity of the films containing up to 75 wt% of DES.
