Technical advances in the analysis of single, acoustically evoked potentials

Arthur J. Derbyshire; Gerald J. Driessen; Cornelius W Palmer

Abstract A method that evaluates the degree and, perhaps, the form and time position of single EEG evoked potentials is described. Its sensitivity and possible error sources are estimated. The method uses a double summation of cross products between a template and the EEG. This double summation is repeated at 25 msec steps through the EEG creating a correlogram. The analysis is given for the template times itself ) i.e. , optimal matching), for the template buried in the specified noise of a 2 c/sec wave, the template buried in the unspecified noise of an EEG, and, for an EEG stimulated by a list of spoken words.

A method of analyzing individual cortical responses to auditory stimuli

C.W. Palmer; Arthur J. Derbyshire; A.W. Lee

Abstract A method is proposed which quantifies the degree to which a specified response is present in each single acoustic stimulus. The specified response is described by a second order linear differential equation. This wave form is preset in a function generator. The EEG and this template are multiplid in an analog computer. The second integral of these products is read out on an EEG oscillograph as the degree to which the specified response is present. The variables involved in this analysis are discussed.

The patient's history: An appraisal of computer help

Arthur Loewy; David F. Austin; Arthur J. Derbyshire; Stan B. Osenar

The traditional approach in establishing the doctor‐patient relationship is that of “taking the history.” This is fundamental to medical records, but it is a performance seldom re‐explored after the formative period in ones medical education. The patients history remains fundamental and with systems analysis of patient care, the information furnished by this is designated as a part of the data base, in accord with principles elucidated by Weed and previously reported by our SARCI group specifically for otolaryngology.
