Evaluating the Efficiency of Road Traffic Management System in Chorzow

Artur Ryguła; Andrzej Maczyński; Paweł Piwowarczyk

In the article the effectiveness of the traffic management system, on the diametral highway in Chorzow was described. The presented analysis has a multi-criteria character taking into account the efficiency of the recording units, detection of hazardous road conditions and assessment of the impact of variable message on the particular traffic streams. The subject of the analysis were the systems of weather information, vehicle identification, speed section control and variable message sings. An important part of the work was also an empirical attempt to estimate the dependency between selected traffic flows parameter and the road conditions.

Utility of Information from Road Weather Stations in Intelligent Transport Systems Application

Artur Ryguła; Krzysztof Brzozowski; Aleksander Konior

In the article there were presented the results of information quality analysis for data recorded by the road weather stations in the aspect of the necessity to ensure road safety. The analysis was performed for the time horizon of several weeks including the period of time, during which there were both favorable and adverse weather conditions. The set of data about current road condition and the information about the particular meteorological parameters were collected for single road location with the redundancy of sensors in cross-section of the road.

Traffic Safety Analysis of Intersection Based on Data from Red Light Enforcement System

Artur Ryguła; Krzysztof Brzozowski; Dawid Brudny

The paper presents selected analysis of traffic safety of the intersection equipped with a red light enforcement system. Violations recorded by the system are a substantial breach of the traffic participants’ safety and its effects, in the form of an incident or accident, have unacceptable social and economic dimension. Authors presented the scale of existing traffic violations and described relations between event occurrence and factors such as daytime, traffic speed and the time between the beginning of red signal and moment of passing the stop line. In addition, the paper proposes a measure to evaluate the traffic risk level as a function of time of passing the stop line and the speed of vehicle enters the intersection. This measure was mainly related to the indicator of traffic safety level of conflicting movements at signalized intersection (intergreen time) and the maximum allowed speed at the intersection entry.

The High Level Risk Assessment of Security of Weight in Motion Systems

Wiktoria Loga; Artur Ryguła

The development of modern transport technologies, such as Intelligent Transport Systems, Internet of Things and Big Data solutions, entailed also new threats. One of the consequences of digitization and automation of transport processes is the identification and continuous increase of the telematics risk. To effectively eliminate the threats, it is necessary to conduct detailed analyzes which will provide an information about critical processes in the system, the current security level and the stocks of the most vulnerable components. In this paper the authors present a high-level risk analysis of IT systems on the example of weighing in motion system. The authors identified critical elements of the system based on assessment of their default ICT security level. In addition, the paper contains recommendations for changes to in the current security, which can significantly reduce the risk of attack for the presented system.

A Method for Estimating the Occupancy Rates of Public Transport Vehicles Using Data from Weigh-In-Motion Systems

Wiktoria Loga; Krzysztof Brzozowski; Artur Ryguła

The paper presents a method for estimating the occupancy rates of public transport vehicles directly on the base of data recorded by the Weigh-in-Motion system. Analysis of measurement data led to propose the analytical form of the function describing the occupancy rate of the vehicle, depending on the result of gross weight measurement. Moreover the correction factors were determined in order to achieve an acceptable accuracy of the method.

A Concept of Weather Information System for City Road Network

Krzysztof Brzozowski; Andrzej Maczyński; Artur Ryguła; Paweł Piwowarczyk

In the article, the authors presented preliminary concept for an information system on road conditions in the city’s transport network, which also makes it possible to carry out short-term weather prediction to provide users with early warning of impending deterioration of traffic conditions. The system consists of three layers: the measuring, computing and information. In this paper, the authors are especially focused on the first layer, which is a fundamental part of the system.

Comparison of Efficiency of Vehicle Detection and Classification System on Multilane Road

Artur Ryguła; Andrzej Maczyński; Paweł Piwowarczyk

This article presents the assumptions and results of research aimed at comparing the radar systems and video detection devices. The experiment was conducted on a multilane road section, outside the built-up area. The paper compares the effectiveness of traffic volume detection and vehicle classification. Presented analyses describe the variability in terms of vehicle intensity and as a function of weather conditions.
