Malaria is a major public health problem in India because climatic condition and geography of India provide an ideal environment for development of malaria vector. Anopheles stephensi is a major urban malaria vector in India and its control has been hampered by insecticide resistance. In present study population genetic structure of A. stephensi is analyzed at macro geographic level using 13 microsatellite markers. Significantly high genetic differentiation was found in all studied populations with differentiation values (FST) ranging from 0.0398 to 0.1808. The geographic distance was found to be playing a major role in genetic differentiation between different populations. Overall three genetic pools were observed and population of central India was found to be coexisting in two genetic pools. High effective population size (Ne) was found in all the studied populations.

Internet addiction and psychological well-being among college students: A cross-sectional study from Central India

Arvind Sharma; Richa Sharma

Background: Internet provides tremendous educational benefits for college students and also provided better opportunities for communication, information, and social interaction for young adults; however, excessive internet use can lead to negative psychological well-being (PWB). Objective: The present study was conducted with the objective to find out the relationship between internet addiction and PWB of college students. Materials and Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out in college students of Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh, India. A total of 461 college students, using internet for at least past 6 months were included in this study. Youngs Internet addiction scale, consisting of 20-item, based on five-point Likert scale was used to calculate internet addiction scores and 42-item version of the Ryffs PWB scale based on six-point scale was used in this study. Results: A total of 440 questionnaire forms were analyzed. The mean age of students was 19.11 (±1.540) years, and 62.3% were male. Internet addiction was significantly negatively correlated to PWB (r = –0.572, P < 0.01) and subdimensions of PWB. Students with higher levels of internet addiction are more likely to be low in PWB. Simple linear regression showed that internet addiction was a significant negative predictor of PWB. Conclusion: PWB of college students negatively affected by internet addiction. Hence, it is essential to develop strategies for prevention of internet addiction which is very important for promoting PWB of college students.

Giant Frontoethmoidal osteoma with orbital involvementa rare case report with review of literature

Pankaj Gupta; Arvind Sharma; Jitendra Singh; Tarun Ojha

Abstract Osteomas are benign tumours that involve paranasal sinuses more than other parts of body. Frontal sinus is most common while sphenoid is least one. They are usually asymptomatic and diagnosed incidentally on imaging for other reasons. Giant variety of frontoethmoid osteoma is very rare and only few cases are described in literature. Orbital involvement in giant frontoethmoid osteoma is even rarer. Due to threat to vision, this variety is an indication for surgical intervention followed by reconstruction of defect. As these tumours are very large, endoscopic approaches are less indicated and there is no clear consensus which open surgical approach is better. We are reporting such a rare case of giant frontoethmoid osteoma causing proptosis and restriction of eye movement that was treated with open surgical approach.
