Aslina Baharum; Azizah Jaafar

This study utilised eye-tracking technology to evaluate the results from the ASEAN mental model pattern of web object locations in a web user-centered interface design. Two experts and four volunteers participated in an eye-tracking experiment. The selected web object locations led to fewer fixations and participants found the target web objects faster. The eye-tracking data showed that users have clear expectations of where web objects are located on a web page. With the utilisation of the eye-tracking technology, a more precise and objective tool can be used to improve the classification of web user-centered interface design. It was concluded that eye-tracking technology is accurate and useful for knowing what a user looks at and understanding the users behavior. Finally, it was established that there was an improvement when using the information generated by the eye tracker. The study showed that web objects located according to user expectations were found faster and remembered more easily. Placing web objects at expected locations and designing their appearance according to user expectations facilitates orientation, which is beneficial for first impressions and the overall user satisfaction with the website experience.

Sign language translator devices translate hand gestures into text or voice that allow interactive communication between deaf and hearing people without the reliance on human interpreters. The main focus of this work is the development of a wireless wearable device for a sign language translator using an Intel UP Squared (UP2) board. The developed device is consists of a wearable glove-based wearable and a display device using an Intel UP2 board. When hand gestures have been created by a user, the accelerometer and flex sensors in the wearable are able to measure the gestures and conveyed the data to an Arduino Nano microcontroller. The microcontroller translates the gestures into text, and then transmits it wirelessly to the UP2 board, subsequently displays the text on an LCD. In this article, the developed hardware, circuit diagrams as well as the preliminary experimental results are presented, showing the performance of the device, while demonstrating how the Intel UP2 board can be connected to a low-cost Arduino microcontroller wirelessly via Bluetooth communication.

Received Dec 04, 2017 Revised Jan 11, 2018 Accepted Apr 15, 2018 Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are fundamental technology in health care that permits the information of a patient’s essential body parameters to be gathered by the sensors. However, the safety and concealment defense of the gathered information is a key uncertain problem. A Hybrid Key Management (HKM) scheme [13] is worked based on Public Key Cryptography (PKC)-authentication scheme. This scheme uses a oneway hash function to construct a Merkle Tree. The PKC method increase the computational complexity and lacking scalability. Additionally, it increases expensive computation, communication costs and delay. To overcome this problem, Robust Security for Protected Health Information by ECC with signature Hash Function in WBAN (RSP) is proposed. The system employs hash-chain based key signature technique to achieve efficient, secure transmission from sensor to user in WBAN. Moreover, Elliptical Curve Cryptography algorithm is used to verifies the authenticate sensor. In addition, it describes the experimental results of the proposed system demonstrate the efficient data communication in a network.A Weblogs contains the history of User Navigation Pattern while user accessing the websites. This study develops a questionnaire that can be used to measure user acceptance of web user interface (UI), particularly web object locations. It explored ASEAN users’ expectations based on constructs in Expectation-Confirmation Theory (ECT). There were eight constructs, namely Expectation (E), Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use (PEU), Perceived Performance (PP), Confirmation (C), Satisfaction (S), Continuance Intention (CI), and Interface Quality (IQ). A total of 160 respondents from the ASEAN community were surveyed for their acceptance of web-based prototype. The results provide an exploratory factor analysis of the model, demonstrate satisfactory reliable and valid scales of the model constructs, and suggest further analysis to confirm the model as a valuable tool to evaluate the user acceptance towards informational website. Hopefully, the results of the study will fulfill the need for developing a sustainable web design, particularly in user-centric website which is based on user expectation for web object locations.

Identifying the Importance of Web Objects: A Study of ASEAN Perspectives

Aslina Baharum; Azizah Jaafar

This study aims to determine the standard list of important web objects for four main types of websites, namely; (1) informational websites, (2) e-commerce, (3) library websites, and (4) general websites. 160 participants from ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam) volunteered. Participants first filled in the demographic questions. They then rated 10 web objects on the degree to which each is important based on the websites’ types. Therefore, the standard web objects can be listed for user interface (UI) design of a site. The obtained web object is primarily a function of how important the object is in allowing a user to make a specific selection quickly either for the purpose of searching information, surfing the Internet, or buying something on the Internet. Hopefully, the results can be used as standard web objects in web UI design.
