The automated guided vehicle (AGV) is one of the main components in the industry. The development of the AGV is getting advance and improve widely according to the high demands in the industry. They are most likely used as a material handling system to achieve flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The technology selections for the AGV are very important to increase the capability and reliability. However, many companies are using the magnetic sensor track; this technique is effective and accurate. In contrast, this technique is costly and inflexible. One of the alternatives that can be effective, more flexible and lower cost is by using a color sensor. In this study an empirical test have been implemented to test and conduct a new algorithm using different types of color sensors. The results show an effectiveness of using color sensors in addition to cost saving due to minimize the operational cost.

Flexible manufacturing system (FMS) has several advantages compared to conventional systems such as higher machine utilization, higher efficiency, less inventory, and less production time. On the other hand, FMS is expensive and complicated. One of the main problems that may happen is the deadlock. Deadlock is a case that happens when one operation or more are unable to complete their tasks because of waiting of resources that are used by other processes. This may occur due to inappropriate sharing of the resources or improper resource allocation logic which may lead to deadlock occurrence due to the complexity of assigning shared resources to different tasks in an efficient way. One of the most effective tools to model and detect the deadlocks is the petri net. In this research the Matlab software has been used to detect the deadlock in two parallel lines with one shared machines. The analysis shows that deadlock exists at transition with high utilization and place with high waiting time

Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) attracts industries to adopt it for its high productivity and flexibility. Recent improvement of FMS focuses on real-time tracking to ease planning, control and inspection to final product. One of the potential tools to be used in tracking, monitoring and controlling the final products is the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Implementing RFID will lead to lower cost and high efficiency. This paper simulated a real-time tracking system using RFID technology to enhance and track the quality and inspection activities in FMS using Colored Petri Net (CPN) method. The proposed system suggests using RFID tags on base that carries the parts to be processed in the manufacturing system rather than putting the tag in the parts themselves. RFID Read/writes capability have been assumed in the model. Therefore, updating the data during the process will be adapted, such as reference number and updated status of part in further stages in the system. This gives a chance to use the base with tag again after accomplishing all required operations in the production system for other parts. Thus, this method helps to reduce the required cost for manufacturing. The simulation of the system using CPN tool shows that parts can be tracked successfully and provides more enhancements for production.

Manufacturing systems nowadays become more complex due to the need for more flexibility in the production line to achieve the market requirement. One of the main problems that may happen from flexibility is the deadlock due to many reasons such as sharing resources. Deadlock occurs when a process is not able to finish its task because of waiting of shared resources that are used by other processes. To avoid this issue, a modelling and simulating for the flexible system using one of the modelling approaches will help to avoid the deadlock. One of the effective tools to model and detect the deadlocks is the petri net. In this research the Matlab software has been used to simulate untimed petri net to detect the deadlock in two parallel lines with two shared machines. The analysis shows that deadlock exists at transition that waits for a shared place which is busy with another transition.
