We give a full description of the Chow ring of the complex Cayley plane, the simplest of the exceptional flag varieties. We describe explicitely the most interesting of its Schubert varieties and compute their intersection products. Translating our results in the Borel presentation, i.e. in terms of Weyl group invariants, we are able to compute the degree of the variety of reductions

We prove that the deformations of a smooth complex Fano threefold X with Picard number 1, index 1, and degree 10, are unobstructed. The differential of the period map has two-dimensional kernel. We construct two two-dimensional components of the fiber of the period map through X: one is isomorphic to the variety of conics in X, modulo an involution, another is birationally isomorphic to a moduli space of semistable rank-2 torsion-free sheaves on X, modulo an involution. The threefolds corresponding to points of these components are obtained from X via conic and line (birational) transformations.

on the Hilbert cube of the primitive K3 surface of genus 9. After the abelian fibration constructed by Mukai on the Hilbert square on the primitive K3 surface S of genus 5, this is the second example where the abelian fibration on such Hilb_n(S) is directly constructed. Our example is also the first known abelian fibration on a Hilbert scheme Hilb_n(S) of a primitive K3 surface S which is not the Hilbert square of S; the primitive K3 surfaces on the Hilbert square of which such a fibration exists are known by a recent result of Hassett and Tschinkel.

This paper suggests a new approach to questions of rationality of threefolds based on category theory. Following M. Ballard, D. Favero, L. Katzarkov (ArXiv:1012.0864) and D. Favero, L. Katzarkov (Noether--Lefschetz Spectra and Algebraic cycles, in preparation) we enhance constructions from A. Kuznetsov (arXiv:0904.4330) by introducing Noether--Lefschetz spectra --- an interplay between Orlov spectra (C. Oliva, Algebraic cycles and Hodge theory on generalized Reye congruences, Compos. Math. 92, No. 1 (1994) 1--22) and Hochschild homology. The main goal of this paper is to suggest a series of interesting examples where above techniques might apply.
