A survey of communication technologies for smart grid connectivity

Fahad Khan; Atiq Ur Rehman; Muhammad Arif; Muhammad Aftab; Baber Khan Jadoon

The traditional electric power system is examining a transformation process to an intelligent, efficient, and cost-effective smart grid (SG) system. The SG has different subsystems for its accurate functionality. Among these subsystems, the communication subsystem plays a vital role for real-time data sharing between devices and systems connected in SG domain. In this paper, a survey of smart communication subsystem is provided and several communication technologies that have strong potential for implementation in future SG applications by electric utility companies are discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of each communication technology in the SG domain are also presented. Finally, a hybrid communication model is suggested for reliable communication between smart meters and control system in the SG.

Exponential convexity of Petrović and related functional

Saad Ihsan Butt; Josip Pečarić; Atiq Ur Rehman

We consider functionals due to the difference in Petrović and related inequalities and prove the log-convexity and exponential convexity of these functionals by using different families of functions. We construct positive semi-definite matrices generated by these functionals and give some related results. At the end, we give some examples.

Generalizations of some Integral Inequalities for Fractional Integrals

Ghulam Farid; Atiq Ur Rehman

Abstract In this paper we give generalizations of the Hadamard-type inequalities for fractional integrals. As special cases we derive several Hadamard type inequalities.

Analysis of adaptive filter and ICA for noise cancellation from a video frame

Atiq Ur Rehman; Fahad Khan; Baber Khan Jadoon

Noise cancellation algorithms have been frequently applied in many fields including image/video processing. Adaptive noise cancellation algorithms exploit the correlation property of noise and remove the noise from the input signal more effectively than non-adaptive algorithms. In this paper different noise cancellation techniques are applied to de-noise a video frame. Three different variants of gradient based adaptive filtering algorithms and independent component analysis (ICA) procedure are implemented and compared on the basis of signal to noise ratio (SNR) and computational time. The common algorithms used in adaptive filters are least mean square (LMS), normalized least means square (NLMS), and recursive least mean square (RLS). The simulation results demonstrates that NLMS algorithm is computationally efficient but cannot handle impulsive noise whereas LMS and RLS can perform better for long duration noise signals. The comparative analysis of adaptive filtering algorithms and ICA shows that ICA can perform better then all three iterative gradient based algorithms because of its non-iterative nature. For testing and simulations, three variants of white Gaussian noise (WGN) are used to corrupt the video frame.

Generalizations of some fractional integral inequalities via generalized Mittag-Leffler function

Ghulam Abbas; Khuram Ali Khan; Ghulam Farid; Atiq Ur Rehman

Fractional inequalities are useful in establishing the uniqueness of solution for partial differential equations of fractional order. Also they provide upper and lower bounds for solutions of fractional boundary value problems. In this paper we obtain some general integral inequalities containing generalized Mittag-Leffler function and some already known integral inequalities have been produced as special cases.

Texture Feature Selection Using GA for Classification of Human Brain MRI Scans

M. Nouman Tajik; Atiq Ur Rehman; Waleed Khan; Baber Khan

Intelligent Medical Image Analysis plays a vital role in identification of various pathological conditions. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a useful imaging technique that is widely used by physicians to investigate different pathologies. Increase in computing power has introduced Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) which can effectively work in an automated environment. Diagnosis or classification accuracy of such a CAD system is associated with the selection of features. This paper proposes an enhanced brain MRI classifier targeting two main objectives, the first is to achieve maximum classification accuracy and secondly to minimize the number of features for classification. Two different machine learning algorithms are enhanced with a feature selection pre-processing step. Feature selection is performed using Genetic Algorithm (GA) while classifiers used are Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN).

General fractional integral inequalities for convex and m-convex functions via an extended generalized Mittag-Leffler function

Ghulam Farid; Khuram Ali Khan; N. Latif; Atiq Ur Rehman; S. Mehmood

In this paper some new general fractional integral inequalities for convex and m-convex functions by involving an extended Mittag-Leffler function are presented. These results produce inequalities for several kinds of fractional integral operators. Some interesting special cases of our main results are also pointed out.

Ghulam Farid; Anum Javed; Atiq Ur Rehman; Muhammad Imran Qureshi

In this paper, we prove a version of the Hadamard inequality for function f such that is convex via k-fractional Caputo derivatives. Using convexity of , we find the bounds of the difference of fractional differential inequality. Also we have found inequalities for Caputo fractional derivatives.

Reliability assessment and cost analysis of over loaded distribution system with Distributed Generation

Anis Ur Rehman; Atiq Ur Rehman; Sheharyar Mehmood

This paper presents the reliability assessment and worth analysis of a distribution network with incorporation of Distributed Generation (DG) under extreme load growth. DG technology at optimal site and with appropriate size improve the power quality and reliability. Reliability improvement is the prior option in modern competitive electric utility market to satisfy the customers. Different techniques have been suggested for the optimal allocation of DG unit(s), reliability assessment and worth analysis of distribution system. In this paper a novel approach of CBDGI algorithm is proposed for the DG optimal allocation and size. The simulation is also carried out to assess the reliability before and after the implementation of DG technology. Cost analysis of the distribution system from customer perspective provides effective options for the choice of DG technology selection and economic power system operation. The simulation is carried out in commercially available MATLAB software package. The results obtained without and with DG sources are compared.
