This paper presents a moving-magnet type linear actuator designed by using flux concentration type permanent magnet arrangement, which can generate higher magnetic flux density in air-gap. In this construction, detent force which is induced by both slot-effect and end-effect becomes larger due to strong attractive forces. To reduce cogging force we have employed a modular mover structure of two magnetic pole sections connected with a center yoke. The improved motor performance is demonstrated with the prototype machine.

The paper describes the vector magnetic characteristic analytical method using the vector magnetic hysteretic engineering model. By this method, various kinds of vector magnetic properties, for example vector hysteretic loop, coercive force, magnetic power loss, vector behavior of magnetic flux density B, and magnetic field strength H, can be obtained on electrical machines and apparatus.

This paper is described about the design method for the development of high density rotating machines by using the two-dimensional vector magnetic property. The most important problems are how the high efficient structure is formed. Then we have developed the dual gap structure machine for using grain-oriented steel sheet.

This paper presents a moving-magnet type linear synchronous motor designed by using magnetic-flux concentration-type permanent magnet arrangement. The arrangement of permanent magnets in the mover structure is optimized with the three-dimensional finite element method in order to improve thrust characteristics. The calculated results are verified in comparison with the measured ones with the manufactured prototype machines.
