Shared Conceptualisation of Business Systems, Information Systems and Supporting Software

Albertas Caplinskas; Audrone Lupeikiene; Olegas Vasilecas

This paper discusses a shared conceptualisation of business systems, information systems and supporting software. The main idea is to think of all above listed systems as different kinds of an abstract operational system. The paper proposes also a shared conceptualisation of business engineering, information systems engineering and supporting software engineering processes on the basis of systems engineering. The proposed approach enables to define all above listed systems in unified manner and to develop unified enterprise engineering environment that increases the reliability of design of enterprise systems because of the possibility to check consistency between business, information and software systems.

A Framework to Analyse and Evaluate Information Systems Specification Languages

Albertas Caplinskas; Audrone Lupeikiene; Olegas Vasilecas

The paper proposes a theoretical framework to analyse and evaluate IS specification languages. It surveys present approaches, introduces the notion of linguistic system, and discusses the relationships between linguistic systems and specification languages. The paper argues that the analysis and evaluation of any IS specification language should be performed on the basis of linguistic system and quality model which provides a set of attributes characterising the properties of the language.

Integrated enterprise information system development through component abstraction

Audrone Lupeikiene

This paper discusses the attempts to combine classical enterprise information systems development methodologies with component-based approach. It argues to use component-oriented paradigm for the development of systems at all three layers of enterprise. The paper presents principles and concepts of this paradigm in enterprise engineering context, proposes component abstraction as realization technique of most general engineering principles which can reduce the complexity of integrated enterprise information system development and maintenance The integrated enterprise information system components and their types are discussed

Hybridization of Architectural Styles for Integrated Enterprise Information Systems

Lina Bagusyte; Audrone Lupeikiene

Current enterprise systems engineering theory does not provide adequate support for the development of information systems on demand. To say more precisely, it is forming. This chapter proposes the main architectural decisions that underlie the design of integrated enterprise information systems. This chapter argues for the extending service-oriented architecture – for merging it with component-based paradigm at the design stage and using connectors of different architectural styles. The suitability of general-purpose language SysML for the modeling of integrated enterprise information systems architectures is described and arguments pros are presented.
