Nine cases of pheochromocytoma in children are reported, together with a review of 91 proved cases from the literature. The most persistent finding was sustained hypertension, which occurred in 88 per cent. In children the incidence of extraadrenal pheochromocytomas was 31 per cent, and of multiple tumors, as many as 6 in one patient, 32 per cent; this incidence is markedly higher than that in adults. In 5 instances a second pheochromocytoma appeared after the removal of an earlier one, as long as 4 years later. Because of recent advances in diagnostic and surgical procedures, the operative mortality rate has decreased from 45 per cent to 13 per cent. An instance of the familial occurrence of pheochromocytoma is included.

Abstract Ten patients with foreign bodies in the bladder are herein reported from the urologic admissions of the Squier Clinic at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Twelve foreign bodies were removed from these 10 patients. They consisted of three glass stirring rods, two hairpins, two umbilical tapes, one ball-point pen, one pencil, one rubber tube, one Penrose drain, and one bougie. Seven of these objects were self-introduced; the Penrose drain was left in the bladder during a previous suprapubic prostatectomy, and the two umbilical tapes used in previous gynecologic surgery had worked their way into the bladder. The clinical features, diagnostic maneuvers, and methods of treatment have been described, and the literature on foreign bodies reviewed.

Abstract Recurrent symptoms of acute or chronic cystitis may be due to an extravesical cancer or inflammatory process, clinically silent at the primary focus but encroaching on the bladder. The final stage is bladder perforation, evidenced by fecaluria or pneumaturia. Contributing most frequently to the genesis of a bladder herald lesion are perforating diverticulitis or cancer of the sigmoid colon or rectum; endometriosis or cancer of the cervix, uterus, or vagina; and subtrigonal prostatic cancer. The cystoscopic and microscopic appearance of the herald lesion in various stages is described, and case histories are presented.

Abstract The rare congenital anomaly of duplication of the external genitalia in men is reviewed with special reference to classification, associated congenital anomalies, and theories referring to the origin of the condition. Suggestions are made concerning the surgical management of the various forms, and 4 cases of diphallus are presented.
