A novel millimeter-wave leaky-wave antenna is described which consists of a dielectric slab loaded by metallic strips periodically. By applying several new techniques to reduce conductor loss of the ground plane and to suppress the reflections in the dielectric waveguide due to the metallic strips, we achieved a very high antenna efficiency, exceeding 70% at the 76 GHz band.

A printed antenna composed of via-wall-cavity with a rim excited by a bow-tie antenna is presented that suppresses surface-waves generated in thick substrate, consequently exhibits wideband antenna characteristics. It is demonstrated that a developed 2 times 4-element array for UWB automotive radar performs 15 dBi gain over 20% bandwidth, and has a band rejection notch which reduces effectively interferences between UWB radars and radio services using the restricted frequency band.
