Does organizational justice affect turnover-intention in a developing country? The mediating role of job satisfaction and organizational commitment

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of organizational justice on turnover-intention via the mediating influences of organizational commitment and job satisfaction. In addition, the study aims at incorporating all four facets of organizational justice (procedural, distributive, interpersonal and informational) in an attempt to test the model in a developing country context. Design/methodology/approach The study targeted employees in the airline industry working for airline companies currently operating in Jordan. A count of 323 questionnaires were directly distributed and completed and returned by employees yielding a response rate of 81 percent. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses. Findings The results led to the acceptance of all hypotheses. Most importantly, it was confirmed that both organizational commitment and job satisfaction had a mediating effect on the relationship between organizational justice and turnover-intention. While job satisfaction fully mediated the relationship, organizational commitment only had a partially mediating effect. Originality/value The study took a step beyond the simple linear models typically used in the literature by proposing a more complex one that investigated the mediating role of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Moreover, the researchers applied this model to a developing country setting in order to bridge the research gap.

The impact of transformational leadership on employees’ creativity: The mediating role of perceived organizational support

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of transformational leadership on employees’ creativity in the Jordanian banking sector through the mediating effect of perceived organizational support. Design/methodology/approach - The study is based on survey data collected from 369 employees working in Jordanian banks. Validity and reliability analyses were performed, and direct and indirect effects were tested using structural equation modeling. Findings - The results indicate that transformational leadership positively affects some dimensions of employees’ creativity and perceived organizational support. However, perceived organizational support is found to not be significantly related to some dimensions of employees’ creativity. Additionally, the mediating effect of perceived organizational support on the relationship between transformational leadership and some dimensions of employees’ creativity is found to not be significant. Originality/value - This paper is one of the first to examine the relationship between transformational leadership and employees’ creativity through perceived organizational support, especially in an Arab country and in the banking sector.

Supply chain antecedents of agile manufacturing in a developing country context: An empirical investigation

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine supply chain practices that contribute most to the success of agile manufacturing (AM), and to examine their effects on its implementation levels in the Jordanian manufacturing sector. It also investigates the effect of AM on operational performance (OP). Design/methodology/approach The study is based on survey data collected from 294 manufacturing companies from different industry types in Jordan. Validity and reliability analyses were performed using SPSS and AMOS, and the study hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. Findings The results revealed that supplier involvement, internal integration, and modularization of products positively and significantly affect AM. Customer involvement and postponement were insignificantly related to AM. Further, the results demonstrated that AM positively and significantly affect OP. Originality/value A limited number of previous studies investigated supply chain antecedents of AM. Further, there is no consensus among researchers on these practices. In addition, this area is underinvestigated in the developing countries in general and in Jordan in particular. The current study contributes to the literature by determining the most commonly linked supply chain practices to AM and examining their effects on its implementation levels in the context of a developing country, Jordan.

Agile manufacturing and business performance: The indirect effects of operational performance dimensions

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of agile manufacturing (AM) on business performance and operational performance (OP) dimensions in manufacturing companies in Jordan. It also explores the indirect effect of AM on business performance through OP dimensions of cost, quality, delivery and flexibility.,The study analyzes survey data collected from 282 manufacturing companies from different industries in Jordan. Validity and reliability analyses were performed using SPSS and Amos, and the research hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling.,The results demonstrated that AM positively and directly affected business performance. It also positively affected OP dimensions of quality, delivery and flexibility. However, cost performance was not significantly affected by AM. In addition, quality performance and flexibility performance fully mediated the relationship between AM and business performance, whereas cost performance and delivery performance did not show mediating effects.,To the best of the knowledge, this is the first study that investigates the mediating effects of OP dimensions on the relationship between AM and business performance. In addition, a limited number of previous studies investigated the performance outcomes of AM. Furthermore, this area is under-investigated in the Middle East in general and in Jordan in particular.

The effect of TQM dimensions on the performance of international non-governmental organisations operating in Jordan

This paper aims to empirically investigate the effect of total quality management (TQM) dimensions on the performance of international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) operating in Jordan. Around 40 INGOs are currently working in responding to the Syrian crises in Jordan. Seventy three managerial staff of 23 INGOs have participated in the research survey. Analysis of the data has showed that four out of six TQM dimensions have significant contribution in the performance of INGOs operating in Jordan. More insights on implementation of TQM dimensions as well as how the perception of INGOs performance differs according to the demographic variables have been presented through the paper. Hence, managers can orient their efforts and resources towards more proper performance improvement pathways.

Evaluation of green building awareness in the construction industry: the case of Jordan

This study aims to provide a clear indication of the level of awareness of Jordanian construction companies of green building (GB) concepts, outline cost and environmental factors affecting GB implementation in Jordan and rank them by importance. Barriers to green projects in Jordan were also highlighted. A well-structured questionnaire was distributed to a random sample of 210 owners, consultants, and contractors. A total of 76 completed surveys were returned. Quantitative data analysis revealed that only 32% of respondents had working experience in a GB project. Moreover, most agreed that lower operational and maintenance costs were the most encouraging factors for GB implementation, while lack of government support, lack of green expertise, and the perception of extra incurred costs and time were the main barriers to successful completion of green projects. Based on these findings, recommendations were set to minimise the effects of the barriers.
