This study was designed to investigate the removal of reactive dyes, C.I. Reactive Red 45 and C.I. Reactive Green 8, from wastewater using a two-step, Al(III) coagulation/activated carbon adsorption method. The effect of pH and coagulant dosage as well as the effects of contact time and a powdered activated carbon dosage on dye removal have been studied. The process was optimized with reasonable consumption of coagulant and quantity of obtained sludge. Coagulation as a main treatment process followed by adsorption achieved almost the total elimination of both dyes from wastewater with significant reduction (90%) of chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC) and adsorbable organic halide (AOX). Besides high efficiency of dye removal, the combined treatment process offers many advantages for potential application such as coagulant savings, minimal amount of sludge formation and also a economic feasibility since it does not require high costs for chemicals and equipment.

Abstract The complexes Cu2L2·CH3COO, Mn2L2·CH3COO. Ni2L2 and Co2L2 where L is 2- [(2-pyrrolylmethylene) amino]pheno1 (PYMAP), were synthesized and characterized by IR, UV/VIS and MS spectrometry and by elemental analysis. It has been found that PYMAP behaves as a tridentate dianion or as bidentate monoanion and tridentate dianion at the same time, which therefore forms various types of complexes. The Ni(II)- and Co(II)-PYMAP complexes form neutral chelates of M2L2 type while the Mn(II)- and Cu(II)-PYMAP complexes have the same M2L2 stoichiometry but wilh acetate in the inner coordination sphere.

Abstract The new Mn(II), Cu(II) and Cr(III) complexes with 2-[(2quinolylmethylene)amino]-phenol (QMAP) were characterised by UV/VIS, IR and MS spectra and elemental analyses. The 1:1 (M:L) type of Mn(II)-and Cu(II)-QMAP complexes has been confirmed while the Cr(III)-QMAP complex show the ML2 type of chelate molecule. The structures and properties of the Mn(II), Cu(II), Cr(III), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes with QMAP and PMAP (PMAP = 2-[(2-pyridylmethylene)amino]-phenol) were compared. The influence of the addition of another benzene ring to the ligand on the type of the formed complexes and on their solution or dyeing properties was investigated. ∗Author for correspondence

Abstract The two‐step reaction of the C.I. Reactive Red 120 (RR120) production was monitoring by thin‐layer chromatography with densitometry. The obtained intermediate C.I. Reactive Red 1 (RR1), hydrolized by‐products and final product RR120 were separated and quantificated. The production costs and the pollution of wastewater were significantly decreased by optimization of the RR120 process.

The complexes Cu2L2°CH3COO, Mn2L2 °CH3COO, Ni2L2 and CO2L2, where L is 2‐[(2‐pyrrolylmethylene) amino] phenol (PYMAP), were synthesized and characterized by IR, UV/VIS and MS spectrometry and by elemental analysis. It has been found that PYMAP behaves as a tridentate dianion or as bidentate monoanion and tridentate dianion at the same time, which therefore forms various types of complexes. The Ni (II)‐ and Co (II)‐PYMAP complexes form neutral chelates of M2L2 type, while the Mn(II)‐ and Cu (II)‐PYMAP complexes have the same M2L2 stoichiometry but with acetate in the inner coordination sphere.
