Selection and Shaping of Bipolar Pulses for External Electrical Defibrillators

According to current concepts, bipolar electrical pulses are optimal for external defibrillation [3-5, 7, 9, 11]. However, there is still no consensus of opinion as to the optimal shape of bipolar pulses used for defibrillation. Modern external electrical defibrillators (EED) are designed taken into account both requirements to each type of defibrillator and the experimental results on the efficacy of defibrillation [3]. The goal of this work was to comparatively assess bipolar pulses of various shapes especially widely used in EED. Electric circuits of pulse generators are also considered.
