The elastic scattering of 6Li and 7Li by 208Pb has been measured at several energies near the Coulomb barrier and analysed in terms of the optical model. Previous reports have suggested that the normalization factor, NR, for the double-folded real potential is approximately 0.6 for both isotopes at bombarding energies well above the Coulomb barrier. In this paper we show that, whereas this low value for NR persists for 6Li at energies close to the barrier, for 7Li it is somewhat greater than unity, and indicates the existence of a threshold anomaly for this projectile.

The breaking of the N=8 shell-model magic number in the 12Be ground state has been determined to include significant occupancy of the intruder d-wave orbital. This is in marked contrast with all other N=8 isotones, both more and less exotic than 12Be. The occupancies of the [FORMULA: SEE TEXT]orbital and the [FORMULA: SEE TEXT], intruder orbital were deduced from a measurement of neutron removal from a high-energy 12Be beam leading to bound and unbound states in 11Be.

The technique of intensity interferometry is proposed as a probe of the spatial configuration of two-Neutron haloes. After exploring the sensitivity of interferometry to the n-N configuration, it is demonstrated that the application of the standard method for constructing the correlation function is not valid for halo neutrons. A new iterative method is presented and applied to measurements of the dissociation of 6He, 11Li and 14Be. The correlation functions for these systems have thus been extracted for the first time and the corresponding root-Mean-Square n-n separations estimated. The results are in agreement with the predictions of available three-Body models
