Electron impact studies. CXXV. Negative ion mass spectra of thiobenzamides. Dual mechanisms for loss of NO∓ from o-nitrothiobenzamides

K. Clausen; B. S. Pedersen; S. Scheibye; S.-O. Lawesson; John H. Bowie

Abstract Molecular anions of thiobenzamides ArC(S)N(R1R2) (R = alkyl) fragment by the cleavages M−∓ → (M - R1∓)− and M−∓ → (M - R2∓)−, with loss of the larger alkyl predominating. o-Nitrothiobenzamides o-NO2C6H4C(S)N(R1R2) eliminate R1R2N∓ from their molecular anions following cyclisation between the two functional groups. The observation of composite metastable peaks for loss of NO∓ from the molecular anions of the o-compounds shows that two mechanisms are operating. It is proposed that the process having the larger T value corresponds to the normal loss of NO∓ from −NO2−∓, whereas that having the smaller value arises from loss of NO∓ from an −NOS−∓ group formed by rearrangement.

PERFORATING EYE INJURIES. VISUAL RESULTS AFTER 5 YEARS

Peter Schmidt; B. S. Pedersen

A material of 194 patients with perforating eye injuries is presented. The final visual function has been assessed a minimum of 5 years after the injury, and the obtained information, such as sex, age, the site of the lesion, complications, astigmatism, intraocular foreign body etc., has been correlated and compared with the final vision. Totally 52% of the patients had a visual acuity greater than 0.5 and 43% ≥ 0.67. The percent of blind eyes (≤ 0.05) was 36, incl. 13% exenterations. It is pointed out, that several years should elapse before extimation of the Final visual result as 18% had worsened and 44% had a better visual acuity than stated in the case records.

THIATION OF CARBONYL COMPOUNDS WITH THE DIMER OF P-METHOXY-P-THIONOPHOSPHINSULFIDE

B. S. Pedersen; S. Scheibye; S.-O. Lawesson

Abstract Recent studies on thiation of carbonyl compounds with organic P,S-compounds have shown that p-methoxyphenyl-thionophosphinsulfide (1) is the most effective thiation reagent for ketones, carboxamides, esters, and thioloesters hitherto known.

SYNTHESIS OF SALICYLTHIOAMIDES AND 4 H-1, 3, 2 BENZOXAZAPHOSPHORIN-DERIVATIVES

S. Scheibye; B. S. Pedersen; S.-O. Lawesson

Abstract Recent studies have shown that the dimer of p-methoxyphenylthionophosphinesulfide, 1, is a very superior thiation reagent, as ketones, amides, and esters are in most cases quantitatively converted to their thio-analogues.
