Synthesis, Characterization and Antioxidative Activities of the Naringenin Schiff‐Base and its Complexes with Some Rare Earth Elements

Bao-dui Wang; Zheng-Yin Yang; Yan Wang

A new naringenin Schiff‐base ligand (H3L) and its four complexes, Ln (H2L)2(NO3) · 3H2O [Ln=La, Eu, Dy, and Sm], have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductivities, mass spectra, 1H NMR, TG‐DTA analyses, IR spectra, UV spectra, and fluorescence spectra. In addition, the suppression ratio for O2 −· and OH·, as well as the inhibitory ratio for lipid peroxidation, were investigated by spectrophotometric methods. The results showed that the naringenin Schiff‐base and its rare earth complexes have significant antioxidative activities, and the effect of the La(III) complex is stronger than that of mannitol.

A new ligand, 2‐carboxybenzaldehyde‐(4′‐methoxy)benzoylhydrazone, and its four rare earth complexes, RE (HL2)u2009·u2009nH2O (REu2009=u2009La, Dy, nu2009=u20091; REu2009=u2009Sm, Eu, nu2009=u20094), have been synthesized in water and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductivities, IR spectra, UV spectra, 1H NMR spectra and thermal analyses. In addition, the suppression ratio for O2 −, (a) the suppression ratio for OHu2009·u2009(b) and the inhibitory ratio for lipid peroxidation (c) were determined with 72 spectrophotometer. The results show that IC50 (a), IC50 (b) and IC50 (c) of the complexes are around 13.0–91.1 µg/mL, 31.9–94.2 µg/mL and 10.8–358.4 µg/mL, respectively. For the ligand, IC50 (a)u2009=u2009120.3 µg/mL, IC50 (b)u2009=u200951.5 µg/mL and IC50 (c)u2009=u20093.89 µg/mL are given. The project was supported by the National Natural Scientific Foundation of China (NO. 20475023).
