Stimulating creativity in the mentally retarded through music experiences

As interest in the area of creativity increases, music therapists and other creative arts therapists have begun to iook at the potential for creative behavior in individuals, such as the mentally retarded, who have not traditionally been considered for such involvement. This article will attempt to delineate a theoretical foundation for stimulation of creativity in the mentally retarded and will make suggestions for the development of appropriate music strategies and activities with this population.
