Thromboembolism and Oral Contraceptives

An association between thromboembolic disease and the use of oral contraceptives was first suspected when Jordan (l96l) described pulmonary embolism in a woman using Enavid (norethy-nodrel and ethinyloestradiol). Since then numerous accounts have been published in the medical and lay press of individual or small groups of patients who have developed thromboembolic disorders while taking oral contraceptives.
