Humanization of Work and Environmental Protection in Activity of Enterprise

Aleksandra Kawecka-Endler; Beata Mrugalska

Industrial production is an integrated process where a human plays the most crucial and vital role. The employees’ ability to perform tasks at shift contributes to a significant loading of health. Thus, providing them good working conditions is necessary. In order to achieve it, safe and environmental friendly systems of work should be assured. In this paper the results of the survey considering safety work and working conditions in Polish enterprises are shown. They indicate that respect for safety and health regulations is essential and in most cases poor working conditions are due to the lack of safety supervision and control.

Machinery design for construction safety in practice

Beata Mrugalska; Aleksandra Kawecka-Endler

Increasingly today more and more complex machinery are designed, produced or maintained. It causes that the requirements of machines operators in the scope of assurance protection are progressively higher. As a result new laws, standards and practices are introduced. These regulations concern all the machines which are placed into the EU market. In this paper the practical verification of construction design for safety is done on the example of shaping machines such as: loathes, milling machines, drilling machines and horizontal boring machines with the application of existing law. The investigated machines were offered for sale on Polish market by Internet.

Human-Automation Manufacturing Industry System: Current Trends and Practice

Beata Mrugalska; Magdalena K. Wyrwicka; Barbara Zasada

The paper deals with the problems of introduction of modern automated solutions in a big industrial company located in the Wielkopolska region in Poland. It shows the inevitable role of human factor in such systems and the effects when no enough attention is being focused on the design, installation, maintenance and other functions which are mainly done by the humans. In such systems there should be done a reasonable division of operational tasks between an operator and machine.

Induction Machine Faults Leading to Occupational Accidents

Beata Mrugalska

In order to obtain high performance and safety degree in machine operation it is necessary to identify potential machine faults. Such faults may have an effect on the machine itself but may also lead to accidents at work. Thus, the activities aiming at the identification of the relation between the failure causes and their effects seem to be necessary to be undertaken. With this purpose, the first part of the paper concerns the analysis of machine faults. In order to achieve it, induction machines are chosen and are widely discussed. In the next part of it the issues of occupational risk are presented, in particularly statistical data about accidents at work in Polish enterprises. It allows to determine the problem of faults and their influence on workers’ safety in industrial environment.

Application of SMART Criteria in Planning Improvements to the Operating Conditions of Machinery

Adam Górny; Beata Mrugalska

The use of work equipment generates substantial hazards for people involved in their operation and maintenance. The scope of improvements in the field should be selected with an eye to eliminating hazards and minimizing the impact of harmful, dangerous and onerous factors caused by the use of machinery. In order to develop solutions, implement them successfully and assess the results, it is advisable to apply the SMART criteria. Such criteria, which are widely known and commonly used in quality engineering, allow for the identification of crucial characteristics of specific technical and organizational solutions with a view to assuring safety.

Managing Variations in Process Control: An Overview of Sources and Degradation Methods

Beata Mrugalska; Tareq Z. Ahram

Understanding variation is a crucial aspect of managing and improving any manufacturing or product development process. This paper investigates sources of variations in process control. It shows main sources of variability such as actual process variations or measurement variations. Moreover, it attempt to classify causes of variation. Based on state-of-the-art research methods, researchers are able to investigate variability and develop a process to minimize the negative impact of variability on processes. In particular attention is the role of human factors and its diverse impact on process control.

Contemporary Low-Cost Hardware for Ergonomic Evaluation: Needs, Applications and Limitations

Märt Reinvee; Beata Mrugalska

This paper focuses specifically on the hardware that could be used to assist in the prevention of upper-limb musculoskeletal disorders in the working environment. It lists the types of sensors that can be used to construct application for the measurement of force excretion, posture and repetitive movements. The paper presents the criteria to evaluate such applications, discusses the intrinsic properties of the applications, highlights the major restrictions to utilize the applications and proposes further needs of development, which are necessary to improve the quality of low-cost hardware assisted ergonomic evaluations.

Preventive Approach to Machinery and Equipment Maintenance in Manufacturing Companies

Beata Mrugalska; Barbara Zasada; Magdalena K. Wyrwicka

The paper shows the implementation maintenance plan in a production enterprise. It discusses the implementation of its particular tasks - what was implemented and what were the effects on output indicators such as availability, waste and efficiency. It presents the implemented tools in the company to support prevention policy such as yellow cards (which were used to report machine problems), inspection standards, or failure cards. The analysis of them provides a valuable source of information which problems have to be eliminated. In the paper, the authors also present how the approach to preventive maintenance has changed among the company’s employees - particularly in the department of maintenance and production in the course of six years.

Grain quality characteristics and dough rheological properties in Langdon durum‐wild emmer wheat chromosome substitution lines under nitrogen and water deficits

Bolesław P. Salmanowicz; Monika Langner; Beata Mrugalska; Dominika Ratajczak; Andrzej G. Górny

BACKGROUND Wild emmer wheat could serve as a source of novel variation in grain quality and stress resistance for wheat breeding. A set of Triticum durum-T. dicoccoides chromosome substitution lines [LDN(DIC)] and the parental recipient cv. Langdon grown under contrasting water and nitrogen availability in the soil was examined in this study to identify differences in grain quality traits and dough rheological properties. RESULTS Significant genotypic variation was found among the materials for studied traits. This variation was also considerably affected by soil treatments and G × E interactions. The substitutions LDN(DIC-1A) and LDN(DIC-1B) showed separate differentiation in the composition of glutenin sub-units. The results indicated that primarily chromosome DIC-6B is stable source of an enhanced grain protein content and advantageous dough rheological properties. Similar features seem to be shown by the substitutions with the DIC-1A, DIC-2A and DIC-6A, but not under nitrogen shortage, when generally a considerable decrease was noticed in the range of genotypic variation in grain quality. CONCLUSIONS The substitution lines, particularly those with DIC-6B and DIC-6A and to a lesser extent DIC-1A and DIC-2A, were distinguished by advantageous grain quality traits, mixing properties and dough functionality and appear to be the most promising sources of innovative genes for wheat breeding.

Implementation of Information Management System: Human Factors Lessons Learned from Industrial Company

Magdalena K. Wyrwicka; Barbara Zasada; Beata Mrugalska

The paper presents the problems of the introduction of information system management in a big industrial company located in the Wielkopolska region in Poland. The investigated system was supposed to support the flow of information between the data coming directly from the production and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The results of the investigation showed that regardless how advanced the system can be it is crucial to pay attention to human factor.
