DSP Based Implementation of Hybrid Fuzzy PI Speed Controller for Direct Torque Controlled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive

Bhim Singh; Bhoopendra Singh; Sanjeet Dwivedi

This paper presents a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) based implementation of Hybrid of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) and Proportional-Integral (PI) speed controller for Direct Torque Controlled (DTC) Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive. The fuzzy membership function is used for hybrid control of these two FLC and PI speed controllers in such a way that at the time of dynamic conditions such as starting, the degree of belonging for FLC speed controller is higher than the PI speed controller and near set point the degree of belonging of PI controller is having higher weightage. The simulation model of the drive system is developed in MATLAB environment with simulink, PSB and FLC toolboxes to analyze the performance of the PMSM drive system. This hybrid speed controller is found suitable for DTC based PMSM drive to maintain the high level of performance while maintaining the excellent response at the time of starting, speed reversal, load perturbation and steady-state operating condition of the drive.

Direct Torque Control Induction Motor Drive with Improved Flux Response

Bhoopendra Singh; Shailendra Jain; Sanjeet Dwivedi

Accurate flux estimation and control of stator flux by the flux control loop is the determining factor in effective implementation of DTC algorithm. In this paper a comparison of voltage-model-based flux estimation techniques for flux response improvement is carried out. The effectiveness of these methods is judged on the basis of Root Mean Square Flux Error (RMSFE), Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of stator current, and dynamic flux response. The theoretical aspects of these methods are discussed and a comparative analysis is provided with emphasis on digital signal processor (DSP) based controller implementation. The effectiveness of the proposed flux estimation algorithm is investigated through simulation and experimentally validated on a test drive.

AC-DC Cuk Converter for Power Quality Improvement of Vector Controlled PMSM Drive

Bhim Singh; Bhoopendra Singh; Sanjeet Dwivedi

This paper deals with the analysis, design and digital signal processor (DSP) based hardware implementation of a high frequency isolated AC-DC Cuk converter in discontinuous current mode (DCM) of operation used for power quality improvement at AC mains in vector controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive. The design of the Cuk converter is presented to feed the voltage source inverter (VSI) of a vector controlled PMSM drive system. Modeling and simulation is carried out in a standard PSIM software environment. Test results are obtained on DSP based hardware implemented AC-DC Cuk converter fed PMSM drive to demonstrate the improvement in the power quality at AC mains.

ENHANCEMENT IN STEADY STATE AND DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF DIRECT TORQUE CONTROL INDUCTION MOTOR DRIVE

Bhoopendra Singh; Shailendra Jain; Sanjeet Dwivedi

Abstract An enhancement in dynamic performance of a traditional DTC drive can be achieved by a robust speed control algorithm while the steady state performance depends upon the switching strategy selected for minimization of torque ripples and an efficient flux control loop. In this paper a new torque ripple reduction technique with a modified look up table incorporating a larger number of synthesized non zero active voltage vectors is utilized to overcome the limitations of the conventionally controlled DTC drive. A fuzzy logic based speed controller and a low pass filter with tunable cutoff frequency for flux estimation is proposed in this paper. The proposed study is investigated through simulation and experimentally validated on a test drive.

Irfan Khan; Bhoopendra Singh; Toshi Sharma; Jayadeep Srikakolapu

This paper explains the mathematical modeling and simulation of fly back converter for continuous and discontinuous mode of operation for low power application. The simulation model of the flyback converter is developed to support and enhance the Power Electronics course at the under graduate level. Input to the flyback converter is the unregulated supply which is obtained by rectifying AC supply. In the proposed model, DC battery fictitiously represents the unregulated supply. All the results are observed and compared when coupled inductor in the fly back circuit is replaced by a linear transformer.
