In wireless sensor network, all nodes are energy constrained and designing an energy efficient routing protocol is very important. Clustering routing protocol is a kind of energy efficient routing, while using a virtual backbone to organize the nodes and perform an efficient routing is also a feasible way.

The experiment on the Railway Riding Quality System functions as measuring the accelerated vertical or horizontal amplitude and frequency resulting from vibration by means of the accelerate sensor, which constitutes a key testing on dynamic performance of railway vehicles. Based on the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), this article puts forward a new method to test the stability of railway performance — the TRQTS(Train Ride Quality Testing System). The TRQTS consists of the two modules respectively as the Data Collection Platform and the Data Analysis & Processing. The former module automatically collects data concerning railway performance without any manual intervention, while the latter module involves data segmentation, signal filtering, Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT), spectrum analysis. The experiment that has been operated on the railway vehicles indicates that the TRQTS system possesses higher reliability.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) application for bridge structure health monitoring (SHM), requires a scalable time synchronization service enabling data consistency and coordination. This paper describes the Energy-Balanced time Synchronization protocol (EBS), especially tailored for bridge structure health monitoring application. Through analyzing the characteristics of the bridge SHM, we present the especial requirements for designing the time synchronization protocol in WSN for SHM. Following the requirements, the proposed time synchronization protocol utilizes dynamically selecting the maximum reserve energy sensor node as broadcasting node to achieve energy balance among nodes in network. In addition, the EBS protocol fully exploits the wireless broadcast channel property in bridge SHM, so the broadcast communication flow is small. The high precision performance is reached by utilizing MAC-layer time-stamp as in the existing FTSP protocol. Finally, The EBS protocol performance is evaluated and compared to FTSP protocol.

In Intelligent Transport System (ITS) there is a new kind of ad hoc network: Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET). In VANET, vehicles get useful information by communicating with each other or with a roadside unit. The location information is important in VANET. It is easy to obtain the locations of vehicle by GPS technology. However, there still are some unexpected problems such as not always being in signal coverage or not being strong enough for some applications. It is necessary to develop additional localization techniques to overcome GPS limitations. In this paper, we discuss localization techniques via V2V and V2R communications in VANET when there is no available GPS information, design a dynamic positioning system based on IEEE802.11p and IEEE1609 standards, and simulate positioning algorithms of DV-Hop, RSSI and MDS-MAP.
