A neutral molecular-based layered magnet [Fe(C2O4)(CH3OH)]n exhibiting magnetic ordering at TN approximately 23 K.

Bingxue Zhang; Yuxin Zhang; Jingping Zhang; Juanjuan Li; Dun-Ru Zhu

Solvothermal synthesis of FeCl(2).4H2O and H2C2O(4).2H2O in methanol at 120 degrees C yielded yellow plate-like crystals of [Fe(C2O4)(CH3OH)]n. Each iron atom is in a distorted octahedral environment, being bonded to four oxygen atoms from two bisbidentate oxalate anions, one O atom of a chelating oxalate anion and one O atom from a methanol molecule as an oxalate group bridging ligand in a five-coordination mode. The neutral layer of [Fe(C2O4)(CH3OH)]n with a [4,4] net along the ac plane. There is no interaction between layers. A long range magnetic ordering with spin canting at TN approximately 23 K was observed and confirmed by AC susceptibility measurements.

The fabrication of functional materials in patterned morphology is focused to obtain remarkable physiognomies of the materials for certain applications. Instead of randomly distributed agglomerated nanoparticles, it is highly desirable to arrange them in a motif, as this directed formation of nanomaterials can have a substantial influence on their performance and activity in various applications. With this perspective, MOF derived hollow cubes of nickel cobalt ferrites have been synthesized via a facile process using sacrificial templates at 600 °C. Microcubes, composed of tiny grains in a size range from 10 nmxa0±xa02 nm were obtained in pure form as a polycrystalline material. The high specific surface area (1185 m2 g-1) and mesoporous nature of hollow cubic ferrites were found to be excellent adsorbents for nitrophenol at room temperature. The equilibrium quantity of adsorbed nitrophenol was calculated as 47 mg g-1 ferrite, accomplished in 7 min. Their large surface area, mesopores and hollow nature, in combination with controlled size distribution of grains, have enabled this remarkable utilization of nanoferrites for removal of nitrophenol from water.

[BEDT-TTF][Fe(C2O4)Cl2]: an organic–inorganic hybrid semiconductive antiferromagnet

Bingxue Zhang; Yuan Zhu Zhang; Zikuan Wang; Dongmei Yang; Zengqiang Gao; Daqi Wang; Yanjun Guo; Daoben Zhu; Takehiko Mori

A radical cation salt composed of an organic donor, BEDT-TTF1.0+, and a one-dimensional inorganic anion, [Fe(C2O4)Cl2-]n, was obtained by electrocrystallization, and was identified as a semiconductor with values of σ300K = 3.0 × 10-5 S cm-1. Spin-canted antiferromagnetic long-range ordering was observed at 5.5 K from ZFCM/FCM/RM measurement and confirmed using AC measurement.

Step by step crystal-to-crystal transformation from 1D K2Cu(C2O4)2(H2O)4 (1) to 1D K2Cu(C2O4)2(H2O)2 (2) and then 1D K2Cu(C2O4)2 (3) by dehydration

A step by step crystal-to-crystal transformation was observed from the 1D tetrahydrate compound K2Cu(C2O4)2(H2O)4 (1) to the 1D dihydrate compound K2Cu(C2O4)2(H2O)2 (2), and finally the 1D dehydrated compound K2Cu(C2O4)2 (3) by the loss of half the amount of H2O and all H2O molecules, with structural and magnetic changes.

W-N-TiO2 with positive enough level of valence band maximum and narrowing bandgap for selective aerobic oxidation in visible-light irradiation

Mingming Zou; Lu Feng; Bingxue Zhang; Xinxin Zhou; Minghui Yang

A kind of surface complex (triethylamine and mesoporous W-N-TiO2 microspheres with large surface area: 117.5 m2g-1) catalysis was achieved via visible-light photoredox catalysis. Triethylamine behaves as a true redox mediator due to its highly favorable donating ability. With a lower bandgap (2.43 eV) and higher valence band maximum (2.905 V), W-N-TiO2 has the ability to play an active catalytic role yielding excellent conversion and selective oxidation of thioanisole (75.16%) within 12 h under visible-light irradiation. In addition, the reaction and the photocatalyst are applicable to other kinds of thioethers, generally producing high conversion rates and selectivities for the product sulfoxides. The reaction paths were elucidated to reveal that these kinds of surface complexes show characteristics that are likely to be applicable to many aerobic oxidation reactions in future.
