Design and implementation of partial mesh community wireless network in Himalayan region

Dambar Raj Paudel; Kazuhiko Sato; Bishnu Prasad Gautam; Dibesh Shrestha

Infrastructure-based CWN (Community Wireless Networks) are emerging as an affordable, robust, flexible, scalable and spreading technology in difficult terrain land distribution focusing in low income regions and communities having less or no density of wired networks. This paper studies how wireless broadband networks fill the void of network services in rural area. In order to address the proper implementation mechanism, we have deployed a CWN in the rural village of Kaski District of Nepal providing the community with Internet and related services as extra contribution. This research provides researchers a real-world test-bed for exploring the technical and social issues entailed in deploying CWNs in the heart of a small community of Himalayan region in Nepal. The model is used to analyze the tangible and intangible contribution of community and contributors that support the establishment of community networks. Also the result from the research is used to measure the problem in network design, sustainable network management and proper utilization.

Using a Solar Powered Robotic Vehicle to Monitor and Manage Unstable Networks

Bishnu Prasad Gautam; Katsumi Wasaki; Narayan Sharma

This paper introduces the design and development of an autonomous path tracing robotic vehicle that can be utilized in the management of unstable network. Particularly, we have developed the path tracing module in terms of the software and hardware design which realizes the autonomous path tracing vehicle using the infrared reflective sensors. Furthermore, the concept of robotic vehicle in order to provide stable power system in TCP/IP network is presented. In order to accomplish this goal, this system utilizesa8 bit microcontroller in order to regulate the DC motor for motion and direction control and reach the server and supply the power. The path tracing mechanism is developed by using photoelectric sensors that receive the path tracing information and provides it to the microcontroller in real time. The mechanism of sensors units, role of microcontroller and the anatomy of our robotic vehicle and its utilization in terms of network management is discussed.

A Novel Approach of Fault Management and Restoration of Network Services in IoT Cluster to Ensure Disaster Readiness

Bishnu Prasad Gautam; Katsumi Wasaki; Narayan Sharma

Fault detection and management is one of the key challenges for network management. In order to ensure stable services and high availability thereby reducing the downtime, an early detection of fault and early isolation of fault is inevitable. In this paper a novel detection and handling method combining the use of third parties modules with newly developed monitoring device (Tensai Gothalo) is proposed in order to control the network fault that guarantees robustness to network instability and assist the network administrator in making decisions. The proposed approach can be utilized for fault detection and handle those faults by providing alternate network path within a minimal downtime. Furthermore, it considers the potential fault in different segments of networks and explore the methods of restoration of services which are affected due to the faults by providing redundancy in each and every layers. Consideration of redundancy in each layer is applied in order to distribute and shift the burden between the network layers and balance their need for network restoration. Restoration of network services is provided by activating network services in IoT cluster while fault happens in a network. Furthermore, a fault alarm system assisted by Tensai Gothalo is implemented to guarantee the disaster readiness of network services. Finally, the relevant results of the proposed approach are then presented and analyzed.

Shree Krishna Shrestha; Yasuo Kudo; Bishnu Prasad Gautam; Dipesh Shrestha

One of the most determining factors for mining the sequences in terms of service mining in cloud services is time sequence. However, this factor is found to be often ignored and recommendation of services in cloud system is done based on the item mining approach. The problem that we discussed in this paper is addressed by applying the concept of time weight factor in the collection of sequence from which we achieved better result of recommendation from relational sequences. In this paper, we describe a recommendation method of service to user based on his service usage pattern in the system. The recommendation algorithm is based on the mining result of TWSMA algorithm which adopts an innovative approach based on sequences of service usage pattern and then characterizes each set of sequences using multidimensional properties based on user id, time series, and usage frequencies. We take advantage of implementing recommendation in Jyaguchi cloud system in which the user are recommended the services according to the log of service used by the users.

Multi-master Replication of Enhanced Learning Assistant System in IoT Cluster

Bishnu Prasad Gautam; Katsumi Wasaki; Amit Batajoo; Suresh Shrestha; Sato Kazuhiko

In this paper, we discuss the multi-master replication of a Learning Assistance System (LAS). An LAS is an enhanced Learning Management System (LMS) developed in the lab of Wakkanai Hokusei Gakuen University. We consider an LAS cluster where availability of the service is inevitable. Data replication can be used to improve availability. However, the replication process can present several problems, such as consistency, availability, and partition tolerance. There are several ways to address these issues. For example, by developing a consistency-aware protocol, we can increase the data consistency of the application. However, we took a lazy approach to address this issue, in which we utilized a Galera cluster with an isolated sequential replication process. Our experiments show reliable results. The approach taken in our experiment is a combination of active and passive replication, to propagate changes in the background, log every transaction, calculate differentiation of content, and provide a comprehensive solution for replication with an eventually consistent approach. Furthermore, our experiments demonstrate that a multi-master replication system is effective for LAS in an Internet of Things (IoT) cluster. In this paper, we discuss the relevant results that we obtained from the evaluation.

Implementation of Collaborative E-Learning System for Unstable Environment

Kazuhiko Sato; Suresh Shrestha; Pramesh Shrestha; Bishnu Prasad Gautam

We design a collaborative e-learning system for stable operation in an unstable environment of developing countries. The proposed system is used for providing a collaborative learning among local schools of rural area in Nepal. The stable operation of the system is realized by the redundant robustness in three different levels: network arrangement, energy management,, replicative database. In this paper, we present an overall design of the system, its use case. Then, methods adopted for achieving the redundancy in each level are described.

Regional Revival through IoT Enabled Smart Tourism Process Framework (STPF): A Proposal

Bishnu Prasad Gautam; Hiroyasu Asami; Amit Batajoo; Tatsuya Fujisaki

Japan has emphasized in the strategy of smart city which we believe an inevitable trend for the social innovation of Japanese cities. The current trend of smart tourism is becoming one of the important part for the urban renovation due to integration of ICT technology in tourism. However, there are plenty of regions which are facing different kinds of social problems. For example, most of the cities in Hokkaido are facing population decline, decreasing birthrate and rapid aging population. Similarly, most of the youth from rural cities migrate to bigger cities leading to burden for urban communities. In this social context, the smart tourism is an important part and a practical attempt of the smart city strategy. This new emerging trend of smart tourism nicely fits with the economic growth of Japan and could become a tool for hospitality transformation into the new height. On the basis of these developments, this research attempt to contribute to address these issues, enhanced smart tourism and offers solution methodologies by introducing IoT based applications. Furthermore, this research attempts to combine STPF for the development of regional tourism thereby contributing to revitalize the regional development. This strategy attempts to combine the Internet of Things (IoT) technology with the development of the smart tourism industry and smart tourism cities. This research have attempted to combine IoT and smart tourism providing an IoT information technology public platform for regional revival.
