Archeological Investigations of the Caddo Lake Scholars Program at Caddo Lake State Park, Harrison County, Texas 1993-1995

The Caddo Lake Scholars Program is a multidisciplinary, intercollegiate consortium of citizens, educators, scientists, and students from homes, agencies, universities, colleges, and schools of the Caddo Lake bioregion who are interested in studying and conserving this unique ecosystem. The Caddo Lake Scholars Program is administered by the Caddo Lake Institute, Inc., a not for profit research corporation established through the initiative and beneficence of Mr. Don Henley. In the fall of 1993, several avocational and professional archeolo!,rists, working in conjunction with the Caddo Lake Scholars Program, began a voluntary cultural resource assessment of Caddo Lake State Park. The purpose of this study was twofold: I) to provide the Caddo Lake Scholars Program students an opportunity to participate in an archeological and 2) to provide the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with baseline archeological data useful in promulgating a management plan for Caddo Lake State Park. This report details the voluntary archeological survey and testing work carried out in the park since the inception of the program in October 1993.
