Contraceptives for teenagers

The contraceptive options suitable for teenagers are presented and discussed. Condoms have the advantage of preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and oral contraceptives are probably the most effective in preventing pregnancy. Other options include the barrier contraceptives available to women, spermicides, sponges, intrauterine devices, periodic abstinence, and the morning after pill.

The malpractice insurance crisis

Abstract Malpractice insurance costs have escalated in the past few years. Although there has been a gradual increase in lawsuits, the current crisis seems to have been caused by the impact of the unprofitable investments made by the insurance industry rather than by the number of lawsuits. Strategies for coping with the problem are discussed, but the complexity of the problem precludes easy solutions.

Nurses and Power

Nursing, because it was dominated and controlled by women, gave women opportunity for professional leadership roles that were not possible in any other professional group. One result of this opportunity was to establish a different kind of political view, separate and distinct from Robert Mertons cosmopolitan ve. parochial power, and which might be called internalist as distinct from externalist. The internal focus of so many nursing leaders led many of the feminists to ignore their real accomplishments; it has also limited nurses in dealing effectively with external power as practiced in the male-dominated world at large.
