Olefin Dimerization with a Homogeneous Titanium Catalyst and Polymerization Studies with Sterically Hindered Aluminium Co-Catalysts — Spin-Offs in the Development of Supported Catalysts for Propylene Polymerization

Since the first commercial polypropylene plants of the 1950’s enormous advances have been made in terms of engineering innovation, process development and, most importantly, catalyst technology, resulting in today’s simple, energy-and monomer-efficient processes. The essential catalyst attributes which enabled the realization of these new processes are (a) high selectivity, thus obviating atactic-polymer removal, and (b) extremely high polymerization activity such that catalyst residues need not be removed from the polypropylene.
