Tackling capitalism: What Vatican II achieved and what still needs to be done

This article provides an account of papal views of capitalism prior to, during and after Vatican II. It argues that these views offer a consistent critique of capitalist economic systems and challenges the Catholic neoconservative and neoliberal reading of post Vatican II papal teaching. The article suggests that this critique needs to be better communicated and makes some suggestions about what might be done to challenge the seductions of an unsustainable consumerist culture.

yearning for God and of human darkness and doubt. His spirituality is one of the most attractive facets of Rahners many gifts, but its contribution to his ecclesiology is not obvious in Lennans work. The work is beautifully presented, as always by Clarendon, but it is also outrageously expensive. This is a very readable work the introductions and conclusions to each chapter make the flow of ideas very easy to follow and it should be released in paperback so as to be available to the wide audience it deserves.
