Abstract Few empirical studies have been conducted to systematically identify changes necessary in MBA education (Porter & McKibbin, 1988). This study was designed to fill this gap by researching prominent firms that hire MBA graduates. The results indicated that although firms are still hiring MBAs, improvements could be useful in the areas of leadership training, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

While there has been considerable investigation of sexual harassment in large firms and in the federal government, much less research has focused on smaller firms and government units. This study investigated small government units (city and county governments) regarding the application of sexual harassment policies. In addition, attitudes toward sexual harassment were also studied. Findings revealed that just over half of the sample had a policy in place and the existing policies did not consistently provide for any training. Attitudes toward harassment were somewhat contradictory showing feelings of responsibility for employee actions, while not completely believing sexual harassment claims. These findings and their ramifications are discussed.

The action-research-based mechanism was chosen due to the nature of the issues under investigation and the failure of management to improve health care team effectiveness with traditional research and management methods. The article consists of (1) an initial exploration of parallel organization characteristics, (2) a case study, and (3) a discussion of the implications for the utilization of parallel organization designs in health care institutions.
