Forces Driving Organizational Change: A Business School Perspective

Bruce Kemelgor; Scott D. Johnson; S. Srinivasan

Abstract Business school deans rated the present and future importance of factors driving organizational change, including technology, competition, and factors specific to the workplace or industry. Some specific items of high perceived importance were student recruitment, multimedia classrooms, and the Internet for instruction. Analysis was performed to investigate differences in the perceptions of respondents from AACSB- versus non-AACSB-accredited institutions and public versus private institutions. Results demonstrate that the importance of key forces driving organizational change will intensify in the future.

Organizational Structure and the Role of Empowered Teams in U.S. Business Schools: An Empirical Assessment

Scott D. Johnson; S. Srinivasan; Bruce Kemelgor

Abstract The organizational structure of U.S. business schools is examined based on an empirical study involving business school deans. In addition, the role of empowered teams is discussed in the context of structural changes. Findings suggest that deans of business schools envision that the structure of business schools will be increasingly open, dynamic, flexible, customized, collaborative, and proactive in the future. Similarly, a future trend, supported by the faculty, is for empowered teams to be more important, effective, and powerful.
