Touristization of traditional Maltese fishing-farming villages: A general model

Abstract This paper focuses on the impact of tourism development on the landscape of the village and presents a general model of the process of ‘touristization’ and landscape change. The model and accompanying discussion seeks to synthesize knowledge and understanding of change in the village as it is metamorphosed by tourism.

New Zealand — Maori tourism on the launch pad

Abstract Recent years have seen an upsurge of interest in the Maori people of New Zealand. Maoris are attempting to participate more in the mainstream economy and see tourism as one industry capable of realizing their goals. Bruce Young of the Department of Geography, Wilfrid Laurier University, describes the setting up of the Maori Tourism Task Force in 1985. In 1987 the task Force produced a detailed report on the possibilities for development of the Maori tourist industry. By 1988 the Maori Tourism Association had been inaugurated with the aim of promoting Maori tourism.
