This study evaluated the hydrolytic and phosphate-solubilizing potentials of soil bacteria isolated from a red latosol (oxisol) under maize cultivation. Rhizosphere soil (SR) and non-rhizosphere soil (NR) were collected and, subsequently, distinct bacterial colonies were isolated in pure cultures. Solid culture media were employed to evaluate production of hydrolases and phosphate solubilization by the isolates. From SR and NR, 30 and 19 distinct colonial types were isolated, respectively. From 29 SR isolates, 68.9%, 65.5%, 20.7% and 24.1% displayed proteolytic, cellulolytic, amylolytic, and phosphate-solubilizing activities, respectively. From the NR isolates, 57.9% produced cellulase, 42.1% protease, 57.9% amylase and 21.0% solubilized phosphate; however, 31.6% of these isolates did not display any activity. Diverse bacteria presented combined activities, representing about 58% of the SR and NR isolates. In addition to environmental and agricultural relevance, the microbial ability to secrete enzymes related to carbon and nitrogen cycles and phosphate solubilization might be important from a biotechnological perspective.

Among the various inputs used in strawberry cultivation, complementary artificial radiation has been a tool used in crops of high added-value. The this study was to evaluate the agronomic effects of complementation with photosynthetically active radiation in different spectra on strawberry crops, using fluorescent lamps in protected cultivation without soil. A completely randomized design with four replicates was used. The treatments encompassed the emission of radiation in different spectral ranges, using white, blue and red fluorescent lamps, and the combination of blue and red lamps. There was a control group without complementary radiation. Physiological, phenological and production aspects were evaluated. The use of combined blue and red lamps, and of white lamps, anticipated flowering and increased the mass of fruit produced over the crop cycle. Blue lamps induced the production of fruits with great mean mass. Red lamps had no effects on the increase in production nor on the anticipation of flowering.

The objective was to evaluate strawberry productivity under different soil cover, as well as its effectiveness on the weed control in an organic production system. The experiment was conducted in the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul - UFFS, campus Cerro Largo. The random blocks delineation with 6 blocks was used. The units were designed using 10 “aromas” cultivar plants, planted in 4 interspersed lines each 0,3m apart. The treatments used were whole plants of Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanense), shavings, acicula of Pinus (Pinus elliottii), black polyethylene and uncovered soil. To determine the productive aspects, the mass production, number and size of fruit were evaluated. The effectiveness of the weed control under different soil cover was determined through the dry weed mass collected monthly. With the exception of the sudan grass, all the other treatments statistically matched the productive aspects. The black polyethylene cover presented better weed control.
