Abstract Fighting forest fires not only depends on the forest type, topography, and weather conditions, but is also closely related to the technical properties of fire-fighting equipment. Firefighting is an important part of fire management planning. However, because of the complex nature of forests, creating thematic layers to generate potential fire risk maps is difficult. The use of remote sensing data has become an efficient method for the discrete classification of potential fire risks. The study was located in the Central District of the Kastamonu Regional Forest Directorate, covering an area of 24,320 ha, 15,685 ha of which is forested. On the basis of stand age, crown closure, and tree species, the sizes and distributions of potential fire risk zones within the study area were determined using high-resolution GeoEye satellite imagery and geographical information system data. The status of pumper truck intervention in zones with high fire risk and the sufficiency of existing forest roads within an existing forest network were discussed based on combustible matter characteristics. Pumper truck intervention was 83% for high-risk zones, 79% for medium-risk zones, and 78% for low-risk zones. A pumper truck intervention area map along existing roads was also created.

Forest road construction works are made by General Directorate of Forestry (GDF) in Turkey. Approximately 150000 km forest road was constructed by GDF until this day. It was determined that Turkish forest is needed 201000 km forest road for sustainable management and exploitation according to results of evaluations. Totally 51000 km new forest road will be constructed by GDF in future years in Turkey. This means that the forest road construction works will be on the agenda. This study aimed to investigate problems encountered in forest road construction method and provide recommendations for the problems. Study area is Education and Research Forest of Macka Forest Enterprise. Height of cut slope and road width was measured 20 m intervals at two minor roads that are 2.12 km. Besides road axis was measured with compass 20 m intervals. Beginning and ending point’s roads’ were taken coordinate with GPS. At the end of this study, It has been detected that amount of approximate cost excavation differ from measured amount of excavation. Besides and approximate cost roads length differ from measured roads length. The cost calculation by estimated cut volumes without making project causes many problems between forest offices and companies take works. These problems are appeared as non-suitable technical and standard road construction. Because, estimated work amount is generally occur higher or lower at the end of construction work. Forest road project may be minimum problems. It is become very easy to make forest road project and application on the terrain by developed technological tools in today
