Levent Atalı; Burak Gürer; Eray Atalı

The aim of this study is to analyze the shots and goals scored of the teams competing in the Ice Hockey World Championships (2013) according to their regions. The aim is to develop new recommendations specific to the branch of ice hockey aimed at the distribution of shots and goals scored in ice hockey according to their regions by discussing and comparing the findings of this analysis with the other results and findings in the literature. The research group is the four ice hockey teams including South Africa, Israel, Ireland and Turkey participating in the organization of U18 World Championship that had held in Kocaeli Province of Turkey. Visual recordings of six competitions of these four teams were obtained from Turkish Ice Hockey Federation. Visual records and videos of the competitions that stored in the compact disk were viewed and goals scored and shots were marked on the template rink which had been created previously and determined according to the teams and areas by marking method and using paper and pencil. Marked data were shown on rink template in terms of percentage and frequency. In addition, goals scored in all competitions and their ratios were presented in tabular form. Data obtained were analyzed according to areas in the form of percentage and frequency. As a result, it was seen that most of the shots have been made from the circular area in front of the net and most of the goals are scored by the team which shoots more than the opponent. According to these statistical records, it has to be provided to give more time to shooting trainings in order to reach more scores and a series of exercises for the circular area in front of the net. Supporting these kinds of analysis studies for the branch of ice hockey is so important in terms of development of performances of skaters and use of the areas in order to score more goals.

The investigation of problem solving skill of the mountaineers in terms of demographic variables

Burak Gürer

The aim of this research is to investigate problem solving skills of the individuals involved in mountaineering. 315 volunteers participated in the study. The research data were collected by problem solving scale developed by Heppner and Peterson and the Turkish version of which was conducted by Şahin et al. There are totally 35 items and only 3 items are not scored. The scale adapted to Turkey consists of six items. These are hasty approach, thinking approach, avoidant approach and evaluator approach, self-confident approach and planned approach. The data collected were analyzed through statistical package program (SPSS 16.0) and the results were interpreted. In our study, Cronbachs Alpha Value of the scale was calculated to be 0.61. In the evaluation of research data, One Way Anova and T-test were used. As a result, in planned approach sub-dimension due to gender variable, significant variables were found. As a result, significant relations in planned approach sub-dimension due to gender variable, in avoidant approach and hasty approach due to age variable. The most striking relationship was found in experience variable. A relationship was found between experience and avoidant, self-confident, planned and thinking approach sub-dimensions. No significant relationship was found in the variables of marital status and education status. Making the activities increasing the experience is thought to be effective on problem-solving skill. Key words: Mountaineering, problem solving, nature sports, sportsmen.

Burak Gürer; Ilhan Adilogullari; Haci Murat Sahin

In this study it is aimed to examine state-trait anxiety points of elite athletes prior to and after competition in terms of several variables. 64 athletes, who competed in the branches of Judo, taekwondo and weightlifting of Turkish National Team during Mediterranean Games, attended this study. The data of the study is obtained by using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-STAI which is developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene and later adapted by Oner and Le Compte. Scales are applied to athletes prior to and after the tournament. The state anxiety points of athletes after the competition are found to be significantly low compared to the points prior to the competition. This study demonstrates parallelism with our results. In conclusion, it would not be wrong to say that the ages of athletes affect trait anxiety level. When age variable is taken into consideration trait anxiety has become effective again. Thus, increasing age of elite athletes affects trait anxiety formation
