Abstract We previously established a system of in vitro regeneration and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation for hot pepper plants. The level of protection against cucumber mosaic virus in the progeny of the transgenic hot pepper plants that express cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) satellite RNA was investigated. The transgenic hot pepper plants were self-fertilized, and their progeny were tested for stable inheritance and expression of the cDNA of CMV satellite RNA. Polymerase chain reaction and RNA gel blot analyses showed that the introduced gene was stably transmitted and expressed in the progeny. Symptom attenuation in the offspring was confirmed upon inoculation with CMV-Y or CMV-Korea (CMV-Kor) strains.

Aphasic status epilepticus (ASE) is a rare disorder characterized by recurrent aphasia without impairment of other cognitive functions. A 76-year-old woman with chronic kidney disease developed ASE after neglecting peritoneal dialysis. Magnetic resonance imaging failed to demonstrate an appropriate lesion. Electroencephalography demonstrated ictal discharges in the left frontotemporal leads. ASE disappeared after intravenous valproic acid and correction of uremia. This is the first case report of ASE in a patient with acute aggravation of uremia.

diagnostic criteria for demyelinated nerves were fulfilled in 5 (38%). Albuminocytologic dissociation of CSF in 6. No autoantibody was detected in all tested patients. Conclusions: Sensory symptoms of Ab and Ad fibers transmitting vibratory sense and sharp pain with symmetric centrifugal patterns of trunk and limbs, decreased SNAPs, absent H-reflex suggest pathology as demyelinating sensory polyneuropathy, not ganglionopathy. However, albuminocytologic dissociation, multiple combination of demyelinating NCS and minor weakness in most patients suggest sensory fiber myelinspecific disease, triggered by virus or bacteria, as superantigen, or by activation of primed CD4 T helperor memory-cell by molecular mimicrying antigen.
