Novel Liphophilic crown car☐ylic acids

Bronislaw P. Czech; Byungki Son; Richard A. Bartsch

Abstract Four novel ionizable crowns are formed from reactions of methyl 5-( n -decyl)salicylate with tosylates from hydroxymethyl-12-crown-4, -15-crown-5, -18-crown-6 and -21-crown-7 followed by hydrolysis.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1984

Functionalized large ring crown ethers

Byungki Son; Bronislaw P. Czech; David A. Babb; Richard A. Bartsch

Abstract Reactions of 3,6,9,12-tetraoxa-7-(benzyloxymethyl)-1,14-tetradecanediol with appropriate ditosylates followed by hydrogenolysis produce hydroxymethyl-27-crown-9 and hydroxy- methyl-30-crown-10. Alkali metal cation complexation by lipophilic dodecyl ether derivatives of these crowns is examined.

Thermochimica Acta | 1987

Thermodynamic ionization constants for crown ether carboxylic acids in aqueous dioxane

Jagdish P. Shukla; Michael J. Pugia; Byungki Son; Richard A. Bartsch

Abstract Thermodynamic ionization constants have been determined in 70% dioxane-water (by volume) for nine macrocyclic polyether (crown ether) compounds which have pendant carboxylic acid functions. The influence of structural variation within the crown ether carboxylic acid upon the thermodynamic ionization constant is assessed.
